How Google works? Yes it has a lot of servers, the best technology... but data that Google operate with in every "load" is much larger. So it's possible.

I believe that it could be done if you separate client - searching - server. So you don't need to connect to server and load all data. If client want some name, he send that name to searching. Then searching use that name and make his own logic (Algorithm) for requesting data from server. When searching has first 20 names, then he send those results to client and remember where the Algorithm stops. If client want more results, he send request for new search. And then searching continue searching for next 20 in same way like first time, but only Algorithm starting position is different.

Google is also a billion dollar company.

If you gave BuzzerBeater a billion dollars I'd bet they'd give you your own server.

I didnt say that you need new server. Everything is the Algorithm! Google earn billion dollar, they started from nothing!

Well, let me give a different answer.

If I look in the database for "Mark" as a first name, I get 47,803 results for players (including "Markus," etc., which would also be returned). This will only increase with time, as we also return retired players. Even if we look only at active players, that returns 21,143 results.

There are also 1457 players with my last name, which is not particularly common.

There are 7 players with my first name and my last name, and that's a much more manageable set of results.

I hope this gives an idea why what you suggest might not be the most useful feature :-)

On the other hand if you'd enter "ar" instead of Mark, you wouldn't find any Mark - why is that? More importantly why is it diacritics sensitive? Since there are many nationalities and not obvious characters (czech ones included) wouldn't be better to display everything regardless of carons etc.?

BTW - I realized many chat users can't be found by search. I guess it is because you can qwrite anything as a nickname, can't you? Since you are still guided to your match-league-country, is there any chance to see teams and not (just) nicknames. Or remove the option to type different nickname than your buzzerbeater one? It would be useful to know who are you talking to.
