Actually, when Magic attempted to come back following the few years off due to HIV, he primarily was playing PF. If his career had had a normally progression for his finally years, I think it likely he would have ended up spending the last season or two as a PF.

You know, the listed position is just a suggestion.

Hmm. Why does everyone keep repeating this myth?

I know I"m setting myself up for sarcasm and nasty responses from the 'gurus' of the Forums, but 'POSITION' is indicative of a very important aspect of the game. And my opinion is based on the research of others that is freely available to all of you.

So, again, why does everyone keep repeating the myth that position is 'a meaningless suggestion'?

When people say suggested position i think the point is that you don't get penalised for playing someone in a different position then what is suggested. People don't usually say it's a meaningless suggestion as a lot of the time the player ends up playing the suggested position anyway.

The quote you showed doesn't support your argument. You are saying people are calling it a meaningless suggestion, but I haven't seen anyone say that. People are just saying that the listed position is a suggestion and can often be helpful to newbies but that doesn't mean you can't play the player somewhere else.

it is a meaningless suggestion

see someone has said it

however i dont actually believe it

it is an excellent suggestion most of the time but other times you have to use your players where they fit the best for your team

i often play a player who is listed as a pg as a sf and i have a c who plays pf mostly and sometimes even pg

as for garnett not being good for the t-wolves you are kidding right

Because it's in the Game Manual:

Best Position: As with the DMI, this is a very rough guideline, and some would even say a meaningless one. You should play your players at the positions that make the most sense to the team, regardless of whether it is his listed position.

If you're going to say the Game Manual is wrong, I daresay the burden of proof is on you.

It has nothing to do with listed position. I agree with everyone that you can use a player at any position. But the 'suggested position' designation does have a very important function in the game, one that has been researched, with linked results.

It appears that I'm among the few (although not the first, obviously) who has figured out why 'suggested position' has importance. I'll simply keep my mouth shut and profit from my knowledge.

I feel like I missed something - where are these linked results? What is its function in the game engine?
The only importance, other than helping players make lineup/transfer decisions in a hurry, seems to be connected to salary (and perhaps potential cap) calculations.
What exactly do you think is the important function of suggested position?
