If yopu want to keep your best players on court chose follow depth chart until 4th then. Baring injuries, foul and stamina issues it should work I guess.

yes you can (sort off) turn it off. it is risky but you do have choices as to who plays. I use "strictly follow depth squad" and if I don't put a back up in my squad for a certain position that player will play 47-48 minutes. Very seldom I have seen them play less minutes...
Fouled out players?

sorry i totally disagree with you. If I can't control my players during the game as you normally can control them minute by minute as you can in real life basketball, the game turns very unrealistic to me. If I pick run and gun, I expect my players to play run and gun for 48 min and not for the computer to change it to any off the slow paced tactitcs because I am 30 points ahead. All my good players (only my trained players are decent enough to mention) have no inside skills and only outside skills/guard skills. It would be deathly for me when due to being a lot off points ahead my tactics get changed... Maybe your team is good enough and they have all skills, but I have been there too, where I had a huge lead, tactics changed and I lost the game or won by a few points and lost all my nails in the progress. I believe because they want us to be able to influence this a little bit we get the option to tell our coach how to sub players. And this is why I dont understand your reply lol...
"It is up to me to set my lineup to avoid this", isn't this what I said at the end? Use the correct coaching rules and you can avoid this??

No, that is not what you said at all. You imply that you should give basic orders to your team like run n gun, and that for 48 minutes they should not deviate at all from your plan up in the owners box (you arent the coach). This is NOT what happens in real life basketball at all. Teams constantly change defenses and offensive plays, constantly. This is a game, a sports game, and variables are a must or we wouldnt need to sim the games, we could just take personell and plan into account and generate an auto outcome. If you dont have to think about which players to play, and you dont need to worry about balance on your team, it wouldnt be much fun IMO. Ever watch a team in the NBA that has no inside players at all or is one dimensional like you say your team is? They dont fare very well.
