The counter-argument is that users have every opportunity to run a roster that's deeper rather than top heavy, and anyone choosing to run a roster in that manner should be prepared to accept the consequences.
That's an extremely good point. Look at the Bulls' recent history as an example.

However, I still think a better fix would have been with the fan survey. If you're in D.1 (or even D.2) anywhere in the world and you're playing every week a 10-50k roster and everyone else is playing 500k+ rosters... Your fans are going to be pretty unhappy, especially if you're accumulating wealth like nothing else, and even more if you've already got millions in the bank. The only fans that would turn up would be religiously loyal ones or fans for the other team.

Absolutely! I think the fan survey is woefully inadequate in terms of the tanking situation and is just merely poor in general. I hope that the next major change is in that area.

yeah, well, we all know it sucks that part.

BUT, it's not like it doesn't happen in the real world. If anyone here thinks tanking is some sort of capital sin, you should look at the worst NBA teams that, not only openly tank [besides destroying their roster and fielding an NBDL team, and having a head coach that washes his car like he coaches], ALL have way to good superavits, business-wise. These guys make millions from TV, arena, merchandising, copyright stuff from franchise use, etc, etc. And I don't see the NBA Commissioner designing taxes and algorithms to punish the tank jobs [let's not forget he's an employee of the OWNERS, not some independent figure]. So it's not like you can have a no-tanking league.

I think it's tough to draw the line between forcing hands and to police EVERY LITTLE thing in the game. We all want the game to be more competitive, full of good managers, etc. But can we seriously ask for everything to go our way? I don't know.

Second Team:
The Ironmen
Last round ONE team in my leage has used. it. 1 out of 16 teams, yes indeed it's almost nobody.

I hope we will see 100% against the bots tonight. That would prove me wrong.

Should always be used against BOTs but I'm to sure we should expect a really high usage in competitive games. So far I have not used it in League games. I will only use it when I am confident what the other team will do, I don't want the negative impact if I am wrong.

I like the feature though because it makes it more difficult for teams to play Look Inside every game. If they do then its easy for me to predict it and get some advantage. I think that's why this feature was introduced.

Its a workaround, that is called "feature". It makes the game more time consuming and complicated. A real solution would be to fix the engine AND the salary formula, that would solve many problems once and for all.

But the Spurs got punished for not playing three players against the Heat last year. NBA is soooo morally correct in every inch...

The Wizards and other teams tank and tank - and never win titles despite that...

I find really absurd the argument of losing THE NBA FINALS to prove their model is flawed. I don't know about you but I'd say 4 rings, 5 Finals and 14 50-win seasons IN A ROW in a span of 14 years is quite successful. And losing an NBA Finals just by a hair, because you missed a free throw [Leonard] or gave up an offensive rebound, well, I think these guys are pretty good.

Tank teams that never win titles fail to do so not because tanking is inherently bad [if it were, nobody would do it], but because of bad overall management or bad luck or both. Managing an NBA team has many aspects where you can screw up all the time [ask the Buffalo Bravez/San Diego-L.A. Clippers and their general manager, maybe one of the worst of all time, Elgin Baylor]. Perhaps your draftee injured often [Greg Oden, Brandon Roy] or he just plain died [Len Bias] or he was a nuclear mushroom disguised as an NBA player [Kwame Brown], etc, etc. And can you blame the Hornets for drafting Kobe Bryant and deliver him to Jerry West and the Lakers? Well, looks like someone invested his 4 draft points/40k per week there and got 5-balls all over the place, and that was Jerry, not the Hornets.

well, if a guy injures in the NBA, they don't just discount their salary. the commissioner will just say "bad luck, gentleman", and will laugh all the way to the bank to collect the luxury tax.

@LA-Karangula:

overextending is not the same as "overspending". overextending relates to weekly economic flow, not the total money you have in your bank account.

well, Pop did it again this year and nothing happened [it wasn't against the Heat, nor was it a national TV game, conceded]. Also he said he was going to do what he thought was better for the Spurs, not the TV networks.

but still, this isn't even a slap in the hand. it was a specific event. and the Spurs actually weren't worried about tanking/losing. now, tanking goes all the way in the NBA. actually, they had to impose the Draft Lottery because of it. and let us not forget that mr. Stern is an employee of the Spurs too, not the other way around. so, actually, since you brought that event of last year, it was pretty funny to see that: your employee fines you a quarter of a mill for going about your own bizz??? hilarious!

There's the NBA and there are all the other leagues in the world, where it just doesn't make sense to tank: no draft, no millions and billions of TV-money.
