Shot blocking is vastly underrated. On all players, not just bigs.

I think I've been saying this for 15 seasons now, but next to OD/ID, my favorite skill in BB is Driving. The problem, of course, is that Handling is trained 80% for every 1 Driving pop(unless they've changed those #s recently), and handling is an expensive, and cap eating skill.

When I search for trainees I always look for high driving and low handling. They go much cheaper than other more rounded prospects, but not everyone is rolling in dough.

The player here, while not American, is a steal for what he's currently bid at. (38595636). This one is American, and to me he is worth so much money. You can get him for less than 300k I bet (38358485)

When I'm manager I'll scout the players for the team differently. I'll also teach people how to scout their potential trainees differently. Realistically, you know the % of BB users who draft/buy a MVP+ player and actually train him to cap? Very very low. I've been playing this game for 6 years and I haven't even done that. I've trained 1 PAS guy to cap. You don't need to fixate on the MVPs when you can get a PAS trainee at 1/4 the cost that will serve a similar purpose to your team that the MVP that caught your eye would have.

I appreciate the responses and analysis and agree with most of your sentiment but do you have anything you've tracked with data?

I guess what I'm looking for is something like this:

You know of/own a player that has an extremely high level of X skill. As that skill increases, keeping competition level constant, how did that player's performance change (FG%, AST/TO, etc.) with each change of X skill, and how did the performance of your team change with each X skill increasing.

That kind of data and information is, in my opinion, of extreme value in actually determining call-ups and tactics. Not only that, but it could be lent with value to managers trying to train these players.

Another thing along the lines of data collection could be:

This team has played X tactic and tracking their players' performance while guarded (assuming M2M) by a player with X skills (if known, probably not) or X salary and X position (not entirely indicative of overall value of a player, but a close guess with no specific skillset and probably normalized among positions).

Oriole- I have not seen you be very active on the NT and U21 game discussions for awhile. I understand this does not mean you are not qualified, as I felt pretty much like you over the past seasons and wasn't very active on discussions until taking over as NT manager. What can we expect from you on the forums should you win this election?

Just browsing the forum, no one has been very active at all this season with U21 discussions sans in the meta-scouting threads. I'll make a weekly thread, I'll post the team updates, and tell everyone what I'm thinking. If they agree then great. If they have some minor tweaks they want then we'll talk through them. I already have the list of all the U21 scouts, so that's easy to coordinate.

Hey, I just found this area of forums after another manager asked me some things about U-21. I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question, but here goes ... relocate it if necessary.

I scored a Hall of Fame potential Center in the recent draft. I don't have a great trainer so if I kept him he would go to waste. Therefore, I'm going to put him on the Transfer Market. Is there a time that would be most convenient for a US manager to pick him up and train him for the National Teams?

Later in the evening for U.S.; early afternoon for the Euros.

If he's talented American managers will attempt to buy him regardless of when he's put up.

It's frustrating! You'd think with him being 6'1'' and his super model 5'11'' wife they'd have offspring taller than 5'6'' with faces that wouldn't crash cars when put on a billboard next to the highway.

The problem that i have with tracking such data on trainees tends to be sample size and consistency of data when comparing it to the competition.

Let's say player A and player B have very similar ratings as bigs with just ok secondaries (something close to 4/4/4/4/4/4 11/10/7/10). If player B plays in the US in division 4, then he's going to have games where he plays against players that are just decent and times where he is going to play against a promotion threat or a D.II cup opponent. Analyzing things too much based off of team performances does not paint a clear enough picture to surmise a tendency. Another issue with club team play is if the other guy, Player A, is in the top league in France. On top of being corrupted and unusable (lame attempt at a joke, regret hit me as i was typing it), his stats are not going to be comparable to player B's. The only usable information from these players are that Player B will perform like that against similarly talented teams (underwhelming micros), and player A will perform like that against similarly talented teams (Italy, France, Spain, major powers). On top of differences in powers, each additional game analyzed brings more uncertainty.

I would say that the analysis that i would bring in statistically would only be on the front of the correlation between SB and rebounding performance on top of what was already there with ID and SB comparisons. It's been mentioned by Tetra and Oriolekid, but to reiterate our findings (Tetra, myself, EPK, tough, DcM, etc from the offsite chats of the past): there is a strong possibility that SB might have improved to the point where it's worth a test at the u21 level as it will not cost us in rebounding as much as expected, and appears to improve the rating performance in conjunction with higher ID.
