So the player with 15 driving and 1 inside shot would decide to drive for layups a lot, but he wouldn't make hardly any of them? Am I reading that right?

I've read that although it says JS for wingmen trains IS, no has ever seen it happen.
I believe that it is useless to have DR higher than IS. I have a guard with atrocious DR and strong IS and he turns the ball over a lot less than another guard with proficient DR and inept IS.

So if you have guards that have very high driving but atrocious inside shot, is playing inside focused tactics unwise? Or will high driving, by itself, result in enough made layups for those guards to not be a liability within inside offensive schemes?

I don't know if this will be helpful for anyone, but in my last private league game I played Look Inside. Here are the results from the inside-type shots of my shooting guard who has 14 driving and 1 inside shot. He was being guarded by a relatively equal defender who was about 3K more salary than my player. The other team played man to man.

Driving Layups: 4-11 Total
*2 of these layups were assisted
*2 of these layups were blocked
*1 layup (not reflected in the shot attempts above), resulted in a shooting foul

Inside Shots
*0-1 Inside shots
*0-1 "backs his defender down and shoots from close range"

So with atrocious driving, my player converted 36% of his layup attempts, and 0% of his "inside shots".

Here is another case study. I don't think I'm allowed to post players who are on the transfer market, but I searched for one with 19 Driving and 1 Inside Shot

I took a look at a few of his play-by-plays this season. This one: (32933276), the player made 5-7 driving layups while playing Look Inside tactics.

I know he was playing being guarded by a far inferior player, but with only 1 inside shot, practically any defender should have more than 1 inside defense right?

So as has been said in this thread already, perhaps it is driving rather than inside shot that determines layup success....


Anyone else have a player with driving MUCH higher than driving? Would you be willing to analyze some play by plays and post here, similar to what I have done above?

I have seen it happen at least 3 times. I trained 1 on 1 F's for 4 weeks in a row. Then I trained JS wingman and hed the player who didn't pop in IS pop..2 seasons ago I had a SG I was cross training. I gave him IS and then I followed it with JS F and then when I trained JS windman he popped. As you can see it does train it but very slow. I always train JS wingman after a training set of IS, 1 on 1 F , and JS F. By itself it would take at least 7 or 8 trainings to get the sub-level in IS to pop.

i am training jump shot for wingmen this season, and i've done it before. All season long you should get about 2 pops in IS(3 if you're lucky).

Driving much better than driving? You mean driving better than IS, I guess... I have SG Paiva with DRI at 11 and IS at 1. I can't analyze play-by-plays because I'm not supporter. But check out this info...

30-4 look inside, Paiva's FG% 5-15 (24 mins)
3-5 look inside, 0-11 (37 mins)
5-5 push the ball, 0-1 (only 6 mins though)
7-5 look inside, 3-7 (14 mins)
10-5 push the ball, 2-17 (40 mins)
12-5 look inside, 4-5 (14 mins)
14-5 look inside, 2-6 (28 mins)
17-5 look inside, 2-5 (14 mins)
19-5 low post, 4-9 (26 mins)
21-5 run and gun, 10-18 (36 mins)

When he has to drive inside in inside oriented attacks, he sux. But when he needs to shoot from perimeter, he's ok.

It's driving. You really only need 2-4 IS for guards. It's a flaw in the game logic.
