the height can also be an issue

how does this guy sound for a draft pick for a team training guards?

Eddie Nixon $4023 18 superstar SG

perfect right?

well he was 6'9" with really bad inside skills (pitiful IS and awful RE & PA)

Now you are talking about draftees suiting a specific team. You still should draft the best player you can get. Sell him, for more than you invested in draft (like I have done every season) and buy a trainee, that suits your training plan. Or get someone older with better skills.

ok r u ready for the official goldfish draft history of shame?

for the record i have spent $20,000 on the draft every week since i started in season 10
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

season 10 draft

we started in season 10 round 4 so missed out on 1 week of drafting spending $20,000 x 13 weeks

cost $260,000 running cost $260,000 - sales $400,000 = total profit $140,000 (this is my peak!)

draft picks
#13 choice #1 Xiong Tiande $3294 19 HoF C 6'9"
i train guards and he was 6'9" with awful js & all bad guard skills but also inept id, was 19 with low skills sold for $400,000

#29 choice #10 Gao Fazhan $2745 19 allstar C 6'8"
a second big man when i already had xie & rad and was 100% going with guards with 7 x inept or worse i just sacked him

#45 choice #30 He Qunhao $2424 19 benchwarmer PG 6'1"
benchwarmer = sacked

season 11 draft

cost $280,000 running cost $540,000 - sales $420,000 = total loss $120,000

draft picks
#14 choice #3 Perry Hardman $4560 18 star SG 6'6"
he was very tempting but i just felt with the height of 6'6" and potential of only star he wasnt worth training - i have always trained high potential guys pallstar at least with only one exception ever i sold him for about $20,000

#30 choice #4 Ric De Bartolo $4213 19 star SF 6'11"
too tall too low potential couldnt sell him so sacked

#46 choice #34 Tamra Gupta $1991 19 benchwarmer PF 6'3"
sacked

season 12 draft

cost $280,000 running cost $820,000 - sales $638,000 = total loss $182,000

draft picks
#15 choice #2 Eddie Nixon $4023 18 superstar SG 6'9"
already stuck on guards i get an 18yo superstar SG - couldn't be better right, but 6'9" with pitiful IS and awful RE & PA sold for $208,100.

#31 choice #13 Evan Halatau $3026 18 starter PG 6'5"
too low potenrial sold for $10,000 and still playing!

#47 choice #16 Andreas Czybulka-Schwenold $2472 18 starter PG 6'5"
sacked

season 13 draft (the worst ever!)

cost $280,000 running cost $1,100,000 - sales $638,000 = total loss $462,000

draft picks
#16 choice #3 Alex Deevey $3118 18 benchwarmer SG 6'2"
it was a crappy draft for guards & everyone i checked was bad sacked

#32 choice #5 Lokmalhakim bin Sulaiman $3185 18 roleplayer PF 6'2"
sacked

#48 choice #33 Jörg Hersch $1726 19 benchwarmer PF 6'10"
sacked

2 benchwarmers & a roleplayer awesome

season 14 draft

cost $280,000 running cost $1,380,000 - sales $638,000 = total loss $742,000 but one slightly trainable player with a tpe of $10,000

draft picks
#9 (my best ever pick) choice #4 Darius Black $3245 18 star 6'1" PG
by now i was really annoyed about my drafting & just wanted to be able to train a draft pick like everyone else so when i got darius even though he had bad skills (7 x inept or worse 42 skill points in total (excluding stam & free throws)) and potential i decided screw it im gonna train him

#25 choice #14 Konstantin Pitzing $2737 18 6th man 6'0" PG
sacked

#41 choice #22 Hazem Mugridge $2771 19 starter 6'1" PG
sacked

season 15 draft (second worst ever)

cost $280,000 running cost $1,660,000 - sales $638,000 = total loss $1022,000 but one slightly trainable player with a tpe of $10,000

draft picks
#12 choice #4 Sem Crone $3027 18 6th man SF 6'4"
sacked

#28 choice #8 Mohd Syamsuri bin Ibrahim $2455 18 starter PG 6'0"
sacked

#44 choice #15 Enrico Lorenzi $2285 19 6th man SG 6'0"
sacked

a starter & 2 6th men - ive had worse

running out of characters here...

season 16 draft (THE MIRACLE!)

cost $280,000 running cost $1,940,000 - sales $642,000 = total loss $1,298,000 but one slightly trainable player with a tpe of $10,000 and now 3 x 18 year old trainable pallstars (tptal tpe on them is less than $100,000 combined)

draft picks
#13 choice #1 Will Johnson $3726 18 perennial allstar SF 6'2"
i got my first choice, amazing luck! this is by far my best draft pick ever even if he had a tpe of $50,000 after i have spent $2million on the draft he is the pick i have always wanted

#29 choice #4 Fabian Goller $2990 18 perennial allstar SG 6'4"
my second best pick ever so how much was the second best guy i have ever drafted worth

Purchased from Melbourne Goldfish for $ 4 000

#45 choice #13 Ryan Brown $2660 18 perennial allstar SF 6'0"
to a lot of players he would be just rubbish but with my drafting history i decided to keep him because of his height and very low fouling, i did a lot of 2 position training this season (1on1 & JS) and he always been trained in those 2 pos weeks so has had 7 pops this season his tpe was $1-10 but after a season of training...

There have been 8 recent transfers of 18 year old small forwards with strong jump shot and perennial allstar potential. Of these, the ones with skills most similar to Ryan Brown have been selling for around $ 2 000 to $ 70 000.

so that is it after spending $2million and making a $1.3 million loss on the draft the second best player for my team i have ever gotten was worth $1-10,000 - but it did mean that i stopped training black my former best draft pick ever the star potential guy

that is why i think the draft is bad

Well I can counter that with my draft spending history.
  Spent Sales Season
70000 900000 S7
140000 230000 S8
140000 209300 S9
140000 500000 S10
140000 60000 S11
140000 5000 S12
140000 993300 S13
140000 158100 S14
140000 150000 S15
140000 162900 S16
320000 ??? S17
1650000 3368600 1718600 <- profit

So looking at this, draft is amazing, is it not? For the record. I have always been a playoff team, so these guys have not been drafted early. Exception being this season. Perhaps I'll train this years trainee:D

thats awesome but u must have had a ton of luck

ive been in drafts where there was only 1 guy in the whole draft worth > 100k

& i know a well known team (zyler) who tanked a whole season spent 40k a week 2 find the best player in the whole draft was a $4k all star

until this season i spent more than u every single season but u got better draft picks than me every season with much less info

u gonna tell me there isnt a bit of luck involved?

in fact i think there is probably a lot of cause & effect

u r a very successful team because of ur drafts

having an extra $900k in ur first season thanks 2 the draft is an amazing gift

there is an aussie team adams guns, that randomly drafted a guy #32 who turned out to be the best aussie draftee ever - he sold him for more than $4million and made it to the abbl riding the wave of free money

$4 million for pick 32! that isnt skill that is pure arse

I was just trying to prove a point. Based on your team, you could say draft is bad. Based on my team, you could say draft is good. All I was trying to say is, you can't assume something based on one team. Obviously if there are no profitable draftees in draft, you can't break even. I have a few seasons in there that were exactly like those. You can't say it's just luck aswell as I have constantly been drafting better players while not beeing amongst the first to pick. Ofcourse situations are different, Estonian managers are mostly dissapointed in draft. So looking at the leagues average draft spending you can anticipate the chances of getting a profitable player. You must have a decent system for point spending aswell.
Don't hate the game, hate Edju?:D

So Zyler what your saying is, you havent spent all your spare $$ this season and now you are not going to take the best pick of the draft in our league?

Why oh why didnt you say this earlier!?!?! haha.

Just FYI, in this league, there has never been a guy with less than MVP potential in any of the drafts ive participated in. So the last 4.. (5? i forget) drafts, have had at least an MVP player in it. Obviously i cannot comment on their skills.

i find that, in general, the more specific kind of player you are looking for in the draft, the worse off you're opinion will be of the draft.

So set your expectations a bit lower. Suddenly the draft is a bit of alright!
