Did you get that in prison? (jk)
If you remember me, then I don't care if everyone else forgets.

No, apparently it's a random event. The point is no player would try to save the ball going out of bounds after a missed shot unless they deem their handling skill to be adequate to do so without any problems, cause it's their possession otherwise anyway. And that's what happens in real life, though you might see it every other game, and not every other possession like in BB.

Well, probably in real life there aren't many players who truly have garbage handling skills. And a player with garbage handling would be an ideal candidate for a person unable to accuarately assess whether their own skill is up to the task of getting the rebound. If you are really seeing it every other possession, then it's perhaps a reflection of big men trainers under training handling.
But I don't understand what you mean by it being a "random even". I'm sure it is random, but even then the handling skill can determines how often it happens. HA might affect the aggregate proportion of misplayed rebounds, but in any individual event, the outcome is random (not equally likely, but random nonetheless).

I believe someone from BB said it's independent of HA. People want it to be, to explain it somehow, but it's not!

I see loops sometimes. Same things happen involving same players in adjacent possessions. So, if someone misjudged their ability to grab the ball in one possession, surely he'd just let it go out of bounds a few possessions down the road, to
take
it out of bounds. Am I being too logical?

Hmm, can't say I recall any BBs saying it's not a function of HA. But I'll be honest that I haven't done any in depth analysis of these particular events. So perhaps they do occur at the same rate for all rebounders, independent of skills distribution.
