That's a possibility. I'd thought that the high figure had more to do with having the league's scoring leader when the previous merch payment came out, but I don't even have anyone in the leaders now and it only dropped by around $100 this week:

3/4/2013 Weekly Merchandise profit $ 39 152 (last week in IV.52)
3/11/2013 Weekly Merchandise profit $ 45 132
3/18/2013 Weekly Merchandise profit $ 60 915
3/25/2013 Weekly Merchandise profit $ 60 833

Wow it must really make a difference then, 39k Merch in D.IV!? I think might go up to as much as 25k but here is what I am at right now... Keep in mind I just demoted.

3/18/2013 Weekly Merchandise profit $ 18 445
3/25/2013 Weekly Merchandise profit $ 19 019

Here is my situation: I have a 9 man roster, but during the week I buy about 3 scrimmage scrubs and fire...
My team has a 32k, 14k, 13k and 4k (American) players.

I mean the difference now looks pretty big, if I promote this season I'm now really considering blowing up my team and slowly building an All American team, although I know it will be pricey!

I was undefeated in IV last season, mind you, and fully homegrown as well, and while I don't recall what my merch was like when the season started, from this time last season forward I never dipped below 35k in merch.

Editing to add that I was also newly-demoted last season (and the season before, but who's counting?).

Oh I didn't even know you are fully homegrown, that definitely has a big impact, I doubt your merchandise would be that high if you weren't fully home grown. I would probably see your merchandise being about 45k max if they were just American and not drafted by you... But I don't know I might be underestimating.
Anyway who has enough time to go fully homegrown... That will take like 10 seasons.

I was fully homegrown, but bought a trainee this season. I've made a habit of training my own draft picks for a long, long time, but reducing to just the guys I drafted only happened a few seasons ago. I think it's impossible to make an NBBA team this way, but with luck I believe you can make a pretty good D2 team without ever buying a trainee.

(It's also quite possible to make a D1 contender this way, but only in micronations where the draft competition is very small.)

Edit: stupid autocorrect. What the hell is the EBBA, anyway?

Ok, serious question since you're online... do you really feel an all-American team makes a *major* difference?

I ask because in my league last season... a very successful All-American team with a self drafted NT player had even lower merchandise $ than I did, with me coming off off demotion. (from week 1 onward). And a team with their only stars being self drafted also had surprisingly low merchandise $.

Of players that mattered... I only had 1 backup American PG, who wasn't drafted by me. And again, was coming off demotion. That seems to go against the notion of all-Americans or self drafted players being as beneficial as they're touted as being.

I'll concede that PR-level, number of season ticket holders and of course the fan survey have an effect on merch that isn't easily factored in from team to team when making these comparisons, but when I was only around 40% homegrown in D2 a few seasons back, I was still making over 90k in merch some weeks.

I thought I remembered you having good results. That''s why last season surprised me so much.
I even had the lowest level PR guy. And they had just about everything you could want: stacked all-american roster, a self drafted NT player, players in the league leaders, deep cup run, & were coming off a finals appearance...

The only major differences were: my demotion penalty & my lack of Americans.

I'm curious now too. I guess it's a name?

Wikipedia:
Ebba is a feminine given name, the feminine version of Ebbe, which is a diminutive form of the Germanic name Eberhard or Everhard, meaning "wild boar." Alternately, it may be a form of an Old English name Æbbe, of unknown derivation, which was the name of several early saints.[1] The name was the 10th most popular name given to girls born in Sweden in 2009.

Urban Dictionary
Ebba

A Swedish girl, usually has blonde beautiful hair and blue eyes.
Guys find it hard to resist an Ebba.
Everybody likes Ebba's because they are funny and sweet, they also have great personalities and are extremely beautiful.
Yo have you seen that girl Ebba? yeah man shes sexy.

That is bizarre.

And I've never resisted and Ebba.

i don't know about my fans, but i would sure like a team of Ebba.

Merchandise -- like posters of my Ebbas in tight shirts -- would really sell.

I could see a chain of bars -- "Ebba's" -- with more of those tight shirts.

I would rename my home court "Ebba's Field" and relocate to Brooklyn, which from what i can tell, has no Ebba's anywhere.

Ebba -- say it softly, and it's like a finger roll.

Ebba -- say it loudly, and it like a three point shot.
