Guarnes tops All-Star voting; Tongson, Jamora plays for their third time

Hipolito Guarnes tops the ballots in the latest all-star voting that ended Sunday morning. Simeon Tongson and Mervyn Jamora also earned enough votes to start in the Season 6 PPL All-Star games, that will be played at San Jose, Hoes arena.

It is the second time that Guarnes will play for the All-star game. And his first to top the ballots.

"It was really unexpected, and such an honor to be starting the Al-Star game, wherein we play with the best players on the league today." says Guarnes.

Guarnes, who averaged 26.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 3.1 steals garnered a total of 79987 votes. H.P.'s Vladukas Juškievicius came in second, with a total of 69112 votes, and Simeon Tongson, who will play his third all-star game, came third with 66700 votes.

Guarnes also broke the record for most votes in history, a feat that was made last year by the Queen's Coast center Simeon Ronquillo, who is also a participant in this season's all-star game. But Guarnes never cared for this broken feat.

"It's not just me. There are more than 5 players that broke the record. This just shows that the PPL fanbase is rapidly growing... and this is what makes the game more competitive, and exciting at the same time."

Mervyn Jamora also got a lot of votes, and he will be starting alongside Polydozel teammates Tongson and Guarnes in the All-Star game. It will be his third time.

"The fans are so good to us, and they wanna see us play alongside with Nudalo and Nezih (TrailBlazers United), Ricamona (Hoes), and Duart (Spider Forest) among all others... the ans will be most pleased." Jamora commented.

The PPL All-star game would be frontlined by the PPL three-point shootout. H.P.'s Viteslav Jurica won't be defending his reign as last season's three-point champion, but his teammates, Norman Johnson and Vladukas Juškievicius will try to make the trophy stay where it is, in the H.P. trophy room, and they will have to fight it out against the top three-pointers of the league.

A Tale Of Two Champions

Thursday cup games have always been epic, as every team have a different story to tell.Last year, it was the amazing effort of a lower tier team to reach the finals. ribonucleic acid reached the finals, one step closer on being the first team from a tier II league ever to win the National cup. They lost the game, but not the respect.

Jubas Beasts was the victors in the tournament. They are currently the back-to-back cup champions, unbeatable since their first cup championship, resident playoff team, and a league finals contender.

Jubas has been in the drive towards obtaining both the league and cup championships in a season. They almost did it last season, until one team, arguably the best in the country, tried to ruin the party. The team by the name of TrailBlazers United.

Ubaldo Nudalo, TrailBlazer's leader and front-runner, has been the force of the league for two seasons. And they're getting better and better. Their front court is practically impenetrable, as Nudalo, Lambatin, Contreras, among others, are circling around the area like sharks on a bait. Rebound after rebound, post up shot after post up shot, TrailBlazers United always vie for the coveted trophy, one game at a time.

Blazers also, are strong candidates for teams who would be vying for the one feat that no one else has done. To win League and cup Championships in one season.

Their first chapter now will unfold, at Thursday, when TrailBlazers United will play hosts to Jubas Beasts. At the same time, Queen's Coast will play for the other cup finals slot, against Ateneo Blue Eagles... the team handled by a former PPL league member.

Season 6 Playoffs underway

After 22 games played, judgment day has come once again.

PPL Playoffs has once again arrived, and every season it's getting more exciting than ever. 8 teams will battle it out for the most coveted trophy in the country. 3 new promotees have qualified for the playoffs, knocking out Devil Bats Deimon and Cavite Force, the usual playoff contenders.

Hoes, Batangas Blades, and Loyola Hts BC have been some some of the teams to look at in this season. With Hoes doing an impressive 2nd seed standing in the Big 8, Loyola does the same in the other division, and Batangas Blades, the Division II.3 runner-up, came to prove that they are one to be feared with.

Hoes became an instant threat in the PPL when they won all 22 games last season in the league II.2, and winning all 4 games in the playoffs. Their Big 3 of Ricarmona, Tulek, and Sayong worked hard in reaching their PPL dream, and now, they are one step closer to even go way past their dream... to have the PPL trophy within their reach.

Loyola Hts BC had the same fate, becoming one to look at after winning their League II title, and predicted that they are sure shot of reaching playoffs. Them winning doesn't come that easy, as they lost three straight TV games and practically maiming the league... in their silent fashion.

But as predicted, TrailBlazers United and Jubas Beasts reigned in their throne. kings in their own conferences, Team Polydozel still consistent, Queens Coast getting the edge, and RED ROBINS had their first time sitting at the conference's 4th seat.

Everybody would argue that this is TrailBlazers United's year. As this season, thay can win both National Cup and League Trophies, and if they do, they will set the record for being the first team ever to win three straight League titles, and even doing 'The double'. High pressure seems to be with the camp, but with their roster, as long as it's healthy, the feat will be a cinch.

Jubas Beasts, on the other hand, remains the Beasts of the east, having a monstrous record and still becoming worthy foes for the very favorites. However, this same worthy foe caused them their chance in the National Cup finals spot, in which, they are back to back champions.

Team Polydozel had a luck lustering performance this season, yet, one thing is still in them, a playoff spot.
Since their berth in season 3, Team Polydozel still remains a playoff contender, in the first two seasons, after that, it's always one and done. Also, since the acquisition of Hipolito Guarnes, Team Polydozel continues to be a contender and had high hopes on them. Sadly, these are only hopes. And this season, sitting on the third seed, they have to prove if much has been done in the span of one whole season. Would they, or wouldn't they, reach the PPL Finals?

Queen's Coast and MAPUA RED ROBINS have always been, neck and neck for a playoff spot. Although they both reach the playoffs, they have a "rivalry when it comes to getting the top spot.
They are both pioneers of the league since the birth of PPL, and, along with Cavite Force, are playoff contenders. Since RED ROBINS have been more superior in the last two seasons, Queen's coast have been in the tip of the hat for this season. And this time, RED ROBINS will have the pleasure (or pain?) to play against the Blazers for the title.

Who will reign in season 6? Will it be Dynasty in the form of TrailBlazers United? Or, will one of the mighty teams who qualified will get it? Find out on Tuesday, as the tip-off for the playoffs, will begin.

So Close, yet so far.
Manila, Philippines - Associated Press

Shinra SOLDIERS knew they have a bad history against the Constructicons and the possibility of being eliminated is inevitable. Nonetheless, the Shinra SOLDIERS is determined, they have been playing with heart and its determination alongside frustrations againsts the Constructicons that would help them overcome the most challenging game in each and every Soldier’s life.

Coach Rufus is determined that his boys backed by a strong inside players Carl Marx Infante, Sebastian Requina and Blas Bantala getting support from perimeter players Rio Sayong, Wilmer Gomez and Van Recorte. Coach Rufus is optimistic “we have been practicing and training for the game against the Constructicons, some players are hurting but the challenge just makes them want to play.”

The Soldiers are entering the semi-finals game against the Constructicons with a 17-5 win-loss record from the regular season, 2 games behind the Constructicons who topped The Great 8 Conference. Shinra SOLDIERS beat Mariano Marcos State in the quarter finals with an upset of 119-105. The semi-final game saw Shinra neck and neck with the Constructicons in the first quarter then suddenly, everything just did not went Shinra’s favor. “We were losing the ball in all angles” said Coach Rufus, “we just cannot hold unto the ball, we missed our easy shots, its like the rim was smaller than before. Moreso, front men like Gomez, Recorte and Requina had a very bad night. Constructicons just showed very good defense and they played their offense very well.”

The SOLDIERS lost to the Constructicons, bowing with a 86-107 upset. “Everyone was lonely inside the locker room after the game. We were so near the finals, it was so close, yet seem so far.” said a very disspointed Coach Rufus. “We played with heart and we played hard, but we fell short. We will just try to do it again next season, maybe with a revamp lineup,” the last line of coach Rufus could send signals to some players.

The Constructicons will face the formidable Alabang Gangbang in the Season 6 Finals of BB League II.3. Asked who will be the league champ, coach Rufus said, “ its very hard to predict at this early stage. Alabang Gangbang is silent but deadly, while the Constructicons has a deep talent with organized plays. Game 1 would be worth watching, good luck to both of them.”

JUBAS BEASTS PPL CHAMPS - AT LAST

Jubas Astrodome - The last piece of hardware missing in the Beasts trophy case has been claimed. They have won a very close game against Big 8's best Trailblazers United 97-95(8308035) in front of a record attendance Jubas Astrodome crowd of 16,458 home game. The Beasts exacted their sweet revenge after losing to the Trailblazers in their last two meetings this season, being knocked out of the Philippine Cup after winning it back-to-back in Season 4 and 5.

"Being in this Leaue for 4 seasons and always missing out on the top prize can get really frustrating. So every failed season we made it a point to add more depth to our roster and this season it finally paid off." says Coach Alas.

Finals MVP Liang Wai Cheng scored 25 pts to lead the Beasts while super sophomore Amante Iratagotia scored 23 points while squaring-off against TBU's superstar Ubaldo Nudalo who scored a game-high 27 points.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6...tapos wala na...

Guarnes is PPL season 6 MVP, Tongson in 2nd

Team Polydozel may not be main favorites for the PPL trophy, but their main man was considered to be the favorite for the individual awards.

Slashing swing-man Hipolito Guarnes was awarded the season 6 MVP title, as announced by the PPL organization. Guarnes was unanimous as predicted by the polls.

Polydozel teammate Simeon Tongson got the 2nd spot, having 86 votes less than Guarnes, and Queen's Coast's Khaleel Ibrahim Bin-Abdul got the third place.

Guarnes got 30 first place votes and 2 second place votes, while Tongson garnered 19 second place votes. He also got one first place vote.

"I will share this trophy with my teammates, especially to our captain." says Guarnes.

Guarnes is also this season's top scorer, garnering 24.8 points per game in 37 mins. He also averages 8.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.4 steals per game, with 0.8 TO to share per game.

"Guarnes is the integral part of the Polydozel offense. His awareness on-court and his work rate off-court motivates others to be good and to be one of the best in the league." says one top Polydozel blogger.

"Tongson may be the core of the team Polydozel, but Guarnes is the missing piece on the team's success." says Quinito Henson, sports analyst.

Tongson is last season's 2nd best rebounder in the league, averaging 14.5 rebs, with 10.7 points, 3 assists, despite a dismal 43% FG for a center.

Vic Nodally appointed new coach, good news for Polydozel rookies

It has been announced that the Polydozel coach has been fired by the management, sources said.

The coach responsible for 2 consecutive promotions and a stable playoff appearance for the past seasons has been relieved off duty because of financial differences within the management.

"It was very disappointing having him leave the club." says the Polydozel owner. "...but changes must be made. Yet, it's a loss for both of us."

Team Polydozel hired their old assistant coach as their new head coach, one unknown Vic Nodally.

Nodally has been with the Polydozel system since day one, and promises a new approach in the Polydozel system.

"Like my mentor, I will be very strict with my plays, changes would be made, and other players may adjust to the system... adjusting--meaning they will develop more or make tweaks in their game."

Nodally promises to give more emphasis on the young players, which, is the key aim of the organization since their founding.

"My main aim is bring young players unleash their potential so that they would be key players in the future seasons. We doubt that we would be demoted to the PPL with our caliber of players. Yet, our aim also is for our tenured players to influence our young ones, like the times that they were rookies." says Nodally.

It has been noted, however that Nodally is a big Hernando Nellas fan, and is also responsible for the development of Polydozel star Simeon Tongson.

"My mentor was a good coach, he is fond of winning games." says Nodally. "...yet he is good at winning games that he doesn't care for our younger players, always ending up selling them at the market."

"My system may end us up out of the playoffs, but I'm sure our adjustments will be due up to next season. That's how long I prepare." says Nodally

Let's just hope that the Polydozel club bears with his patience.

Defense played key in Polydozel win

Fans gathered to anticipate the exciting matchup between Batangas Blades and Team Polydozel. With home court advantage, Team Polydozel is expected to make a better performance.

Hence, the crowd was surprised to watch an awesome display of defense.

"Yeah, before we thought a defensive game was boring, but hats off to these two teams, as they really know each others' basketball." says one contented fan.

PG Juppert Zamora was the high point man with 19 points, and 4 other members of team Polydozel scored double figures, including PF Carl Marx Bello, with 12 points coming off bench.

Simeon Tongson, the team's captain, also came off bench, yet, he managed to play 32 minutes, doing his usual "abyssmal offense-godly defense" presence.

"Even though he didn't manage a block, he was still pesky to the Blade's center."

Yet, Blades C Rudecindo Barrantes posted up 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Blades, and showing some promise for the division league.

"He's one player with lots of upside, that's why i can't resist putting him on the court." says the Blades coach.

4th quarter was hell for this both teams, as both were missing shot after shot.

"It was ugly that time, but defense played through." says Ronnie Gotardo, who had 13 points and 17 rebounds.

Batangas Blades had a scoring drought in the last 2 minutes, this windows team Polydozel's opportunity to execute offense, and with the help of home court advantage, they pulled through the end. Polydozel was trailing in the second half before the 12-2 score run.
