Here's another suggestion.

The team that ends fifth in the group will play a knockout game with the fourth of the same group for the entrance in the playoffs. The team that wins plays with the 1st.

in this case you punish the third placed team, and get trouble with the schedule. But at least, it makes the foruth place more attractiv then the 6 and the 7th.

I am not a fan of Managerzone and I think that it gets ridiculous when you get no gate receipts.

One way to solve the fifth place problem is to add another scrimmage to compensate for lost training and to include prize money so that the fifth place finisher gets prixe money compensating for the loss of gate receipts. You can also conside relegation games to attract much less people than regular season matches but I think such solution destroys the realism of the game in a not necessary way.

But I really do think that 6th place can't be more attractive than 5th in any sense. In real sports I never heard of a situation where a team actually want to lose to get more games and more receipts. To lose to get better drafts are something that certainly exists even if teamsprobably never would admit that so that they would have less people during late season.

Would any 5th place teams truly prefer to risk relegation in order for an extra game's payout?

I do, this season at least, because of the big differences between conferences. Not just for the money, but also for training minutes and draft pick. In a harder conference/division I would think twice about it (but still consider it).

One way to limit the desire to end 6th/7th is to punish the teams season ticket holders. That would keep me away for sure.

i would say as stronger the leagues get, the more effective is this strategy ;) Because you normally pay alot of salary in such division ...

I also doesn't scared that much through relegation, because i think i could come strnger back to the top division with my roster.

This is going to be addressed as part of the offseason changes. However, we really do not see it as poorly balanced; 5th place teams have no chance of being relegated. Would any 5th place teams truly prefer to risk relegation in order for an extra game's payout?

I do. and I know a lot of other italians user who thins the same as me.

cheers :)

If you're going to give money to the 5th place team, then it better be less than what the 4th team gets (1/3 of the 1st placed team ticket sales). And that's not much at all.

The 4th place team has a chance to win the championship.

Yep, I know. My point is that, I think if you give money to the 5th place team, then 4th place team would start losing league games to place 5th if they think they have no chance against the 1st place team. I prefer the status quo.

If you finish 5th you have zero chance against the first place team.

Obviously. But aren't the people complaining about $$$? They obviously don't care about the fact that they can get relegated if they're in 6th place.
