Maybe the solution is to leave free throw training as it is (i.e. don't tie it in with other training), and simply make it that mediocre is the lowest skill rating in free throws possible. That way free throws are decent to begin with, and there is still value for managers to train free throws higher if they wish.

I have a similar dilemma with stamina training. No nba players are going to have atrocious stamina. Just seems a tad unrealistic to me.

Like other atrocious skills, doesnt make any sense that any player can shot from the elbow perfectly and with the same hands cannot pass the ball... but makes difference to have this kind of disability in here.

I understand, but even with atrocious jump shot people don't have a 0 from 58 record. Whilst with atrocious free throws they do, and free throws are much easier.

I think there are no atrocious FT shooters in any D1 (all that were drafted prolly got booted anyway). There can be atrocius FT shooters in the lower leagues.
Team trainings are there for a reason. If you do not like your stamina or ft shooting, please train them.

I don't play basketball, but I would bet my life that I would score at least 1 out of 58 free throws.

I'm pretty sure you will not, atleast in a competitive game. Anybody can hit FT-s in practice. Real game has a different atmosphere.

Are you serious? 1 in 58 is nothing. A monkey could make that. And for me there isn't going to be any pressure because the score of the game isn't going to make a difference. If I stood at the free throw line and kept shooting shot after shot, I would definitely make 1 in the first 10 shots, let alone 58 shots.

My dead great-grandmother can hit more than 2% from the free throw line.

I agree that it's odd for a player with a solid JS should ever be lousy at FT. IS does not necessarily translate into FT (right, Tim Duncan? Shaq?). And FT is not a jump shot. But I don't think it takes a basketball rocket scientist (I think those exist, they mostly live in Houston) to figure out that the best FT shooters at any level tend to be players who can shoot mid-range shots pretty darn well, too. JR isn't a free throw, so I don't necessarily connect JR with FT (though there is probably a pretty good correlation between players who can shoot from behind the arc and players who can shoot from the charity stripe). So while I wouldn't suggest removing FT training (though I would certainly support something this radical), I'd ask how can a player work on his jump shot (which includes shooting mechanics) and not get better (even minimally) at the FT line?

Don't ask what sort of Chunks they are, you probably don't want to know. Blowing Chunks since Season 4!

i find the argumentation reasonable, but i prefer to live with the old system. maybewith an little systrem boost, so that palyer with the lowest free throw skill are able to hit at least 1 of 10 ;)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2P9qCPkI-4&feature=fv... - i ahad to think on him when it comes to atrocious free throws, and he isn't really big so i expect he had at least a decent mid range jumper when he makes it to the NBA.
