assuming any one considers those one dimensional players... proper 'bigs' that is.

Time for me to train bigs and sell em when everyone else who's started training guards now needs bigs. D:

If you had to pick one is it better to have strong big men or strong guards?

Please note that one strong outside player costs the same as two strong inside players ;-)
So train guards and buy big men ;-)

There is a limitation to that: big men are expensive in salary that means you pay on weekly basis what you save at acquisition. This is especially true with developed skill sets.

If you look at well rounded big men like PFs with competitive OD, range & offensive flow you'll see that their prices approach those of SFs. That's all a question of training weeks.

And your knee-jerk reaction is wrong. Watch Garnett play and you'll see a player whose knees are shot, reactions are slow. His best days are WAY behind him. Pau is the single biggest reason why the Lakers are no longer playing. He and Carlos Boozer are the most overrated big men in the league. There are 5 elite post players in the NBA: Howard, Griffin, Bosh, Nowitzki, and Stoudemire. Horford, Love, and Randolph aren't too far away. Everyone else is a clear step below.

did he just put griffin in top 5 post player?

sigh.

well he doesnt watch NBA after all.

Bosh is still one of the softest big men in NBA. "Come and tea bag me at the rim!" KG is a legend!

...while teams built around an inside game - the Magic and Spurs come to mind

Houston comes to mind too with game play planned around Yao Ming. It didn't work as planned.

And no, Pau Gasol and Kevin Garnett are not elite big men.

You must be joking. Especially for KG.

Aren't too far away? You serious? Randolph? The guy has to play alone against 5 opponents to be elite? Come on. You really don't know what you're talking about. Love - the double-double machine played his record game with knees almost broken. I'm sure none of us can tell how difficult that is. And in the elite league like NBA.

If Kevin Garnett is not elite, there's some big misunderstanding here. He's definitely not an elite... guard. but come on, this was drafted in 95! and 16 years later(i.e. now), he plays on a champhionship team, being an uncontested starter, averages 15 points and 9 rebounds in the regular season, and is one of the best defensive players in the NBA. I agree that he's not the best, but not elite...
