How do you figure he has no chance of making the USA U21' team? Who has a better chance than an 18 yr old with good potential? He has the best possible defense for a rookie and good size for a SF. If he has no chance, who does?

Height: 6'6" / 198 cm
Potential: perennial allstar
Game Shape: respectable

Jump Shot: mediocre Jump Range: mediocre
Outside Def.: respectable Handling: inept
Driving: mediocre Passing: inept
Inside Shot: average Inside Def.: strong ↑
Rebounding: respectable Shot Blocking: average
Stamina: respectable Free Throw: pitiful

The potential actually means nothing and if it did then wouldn't all the superstars and MVPs make the team instead. In fact he probably has close to the minimum potential acceptable for the USA team. Look at this seasons team. No-one has less than perennial allstar potential - your guy is the bare minimum.

So if he can't make it who can? Well how about guys who start out with respectable JS and JR? That puts them about 8 weeks ahead right there. Or what about guys who are 6'0"? They will pop much more quickly and over four seasons in their outside skills (which are normally the main focus for the first few seasons but I think the height is close to perfect in the long run for a SF) by at least 10% (really much more I think) but even that is +8-10 skills which is huge.

Don't get me wrong, he is a fantastic player and you should be extactic to get him but think of the competition. There will be 6'0" MVPs who started with a $6,000 salary and have been trained every week 48+ in single position training with a level 7 trainer. Those are the sorts of players you will fighting for a spot. I hope you make it and it is worth trying and so exciting to work towards it, but be realistic. Good luck.
