Australia secure key win over Hong Kong, set up for top 2 spot.(34829)In the second stage of the continental championships, its all about securing a top 2 spot for a semi final showdown. Australia took a big step to grabbing one of those spots in pool D last night, taking an 18 point win over one of the "Big 3" Countries, Hong Kong.
It was the Ewan Price show, with the big guy going 11-15FG for a massive 27 points in just 29 minutes, including 11 from 11 inside the keyway. His 8 boards also proved crucial, as the Australians led the rebound count 49-34, including 17 offensive rebounds.
Captain Nicodemou controlled the pace well with 6 dimes, giving the open shooter a distinct advantage. Power Forward Benji Nicholas also had his passing skills on display, even though he registered 2 assists, many a time he set up a scoring play with the finishing player fouled as a result of his vision.

Next game is against the Philippines, and coaching mastermind Morwood. Expect nothing less than a full assault from these guys as they look to compete for top spot in our Pool. Does the top spot really matter? Im not sure. With China losing last night, and Taiwan looking like a great team, the semi finals look to be as competitive as ever.
