Made me smile. Thanks
Something to ad to the intelligence thing... You compared it to height. I suggest that height is a great analogy but for a different reason, because each height is useful for a different purpose.
Just because someone is 7ft tall, doesn't mean he's better than someone who's 4ft (unless you play basketball, which is an incredibly "heightist" sport). Lots of people - I would venture to say most people - believe that they are more intelligent than the average. Talk to people, and listen, and this is easy to pick up. A lot of people go on to suggest that "most people are stupid" or below the average intelligence. I think there is a very easy explanation to this. We are all experts in our own fields of knowledge and also lack the humility that we are not in the fields of knowledge of others.
I see a lot of people who are very quick to identify that someone doesn't know the simplest things about a subject and, then, very quickly label them as stupid. A concreter does it to a shop assistant. A shop assistant does it to a cleaner. A cleaner does it to a concreter. What each person fails to realise is that the exact same thing can apply to them.
All this being said, I don't see a time soon when the humility will grow and people will generally acknowledge that they don't know some things.
Me included.
It is important to recognise those who do eat their humble pie, though. I hope people look out for those who do the good stuff
