Okay. Let me explain. I agreed he has a solid team. Can he win this game on a CT vs. TIE? Yes. Is he a favorite? No. Does it spoil his season, if he loses? Pretty much.

The game you link to is from a year ago, like season 8 or whatever. He took you to overtime b/c of 2-3 zone and b/c some of your key players were on the bench. I've taken a 54 point loss in the league just so I could field my #1 team.

Not that this is any of my business, but PBS did make the elite 8 of the tournament last season, and he finished at .500 (11-11) in sixth. Him losing this game on a CT hardly "spoils his season," as you suggest. By the time inter-league play rolls around, he's hardly at any more of a disadvantage than he would be had he TIEd against you.

nth_mlb threw a home CT against me last season in the tournament. He beat me. (I'm still grumpy.) He wound up winning the playoffs and promoting. Perhaps not a fair point, since he's been an NBBA fixture for a while, except for the season when the wheels came off and he relegated, but a point nonetheless.

I guess my point is that a CT this early isn't going to doom a season at all. Sure, it might cause him to lose a few more games than he normally would have, but, in terms of enthusiasm, he's going to be up there with his rivals by the time the playoffs roll around. I don't see much difference between that and rolling over for you. And, on the other hand, if he wins, then he gets the continued revenue and likely easy TIEs that will come from future tournament games.

I actually think it's a decent idea for him to CT you (and not just because you're in my league! ;) ) - teams have very similar game shape and enthusiasm at this point. He gets a big bonus with HCA and a CT. (Of course, with you resting your starters the other day, he should have seen that you were going to play starters against him, but that's another story.)

Fair enough. I mostly posted the match because I was a bit surprised to have played a non-NBBA team with equal effort (and I assume my enthusiasm was at least as good as his) on my court and to have gone to overtime. And yes, those were my backups, though my backups have always been pretty close to my starters in ability. But I take your point.

YOU DID IT!!!!!

For a minute, I thought you meant that he'd fixed the annoying thing in the forums where when you reply to a message and hit submit, it sends you to your response, thereby skipping the rest of the messages in the thread.

So, he gets himself maybe a 20% chance of a win rather than a 5% by CT-ing this game rather than normaling. In exchange, he is nearly certain to to lose at home with HBS and clearly both of the next away games.

Since I feel HBS is likely the favorite to win II.4 this season, he may feel that's a TIE loss anyway, and what's the difference if he loses by 20 or 40 (other than the obvious point-differential should he end up tied with another team at the end of the season)? I agree with dhoff, though, he should've seen you tank the game earlier this week and known the starters were coming his way.

Obviously I was exaggerating when I said he's relegating: but what's he going to be fighting for?

Good question. $50,000?

You should reconsider. As I said above, I think it's a terrible idea. ;)

Bah, looks like I have the toughest matchup next round, some d.III team ranked 78th. Fun fact, he's played LI/MTM in every single game (even most scrimmages/PLs) since the middle of Season 6!

WTF with training? I have been training Boro for an entire season, out of position, getting him the required 48 minutes and he has not popped. WTF? He is a per. all-star, and only has a salary of 35k. This is some straight BS! Can anyone tell me wtf is going on?

Okay. Done venting.

Just say no to bitchassedness!
