Yes I totally agree.

I started thinking again though, being a team based training activity, if you were able to get that half-point increase across 4 players, thats 2 points per game, for your team. If you said to me "If you run this training regime, once a year, your team's output will increase by 2 points per game" I would probably do it. The team aspect of the training i think gives it a bit more effect.
An example.

Not looking at personal changes or training in this example, I looked at Season 14 V Season 15 stats for FT for my team.

Season 14 - FT% was 56% for 226 FT's made out of 402
Season 15 - FT% was 65% for 268 FT's made out of 410 So a good comparison.

That equaled just under 2 points per game, for my team.
So by increasing my FT skill through training and buying better players, I increased the team's production by 2 points per game. There is a couple more wins in the column for those close games!
The question is, how much of that increase can be attributed to training!!!!! hard to determine me thinks.

Still, an interesting stat!

2 points per game is not bad, but you have to ask yourself.. How many games in a season do you lose by 1 or 2 points (0 for me last season), and how much will these 2 points more actually affect your performance? Or wouldn't it be better if you trained something else instead?
I don't usually do FT training for example and try to buy players who have at least inept FT or above. Once you reach mediocre or average, it's not worth training in my opinion.

the question is, what games you would win with one additional Jump Shot training? I doubt that this makes a 2 point difference too, but while training constantly you are maybe able to beat a opponent at the end of the season who would beat your initial roster.

The next thing is, you don't loose game that often with 1-2 points, because basketball players try to win games in the last minutes which often fails and give the opponent a bigger lead(and especially here where ehm the player make very optimistic fouls) - so you won't see that margin often at the end of the game but they could have decided it in 47 minutes before.

I also thought of this as well, if say, in comparison, 4 players popped in JS training throughout the year, what is that worth in terms of net points? Obviously very difficult to measure, but food for thought.

Further to your point, which, is very true, most games, which are close, you end up losing by 7-8 points, because your team will foul, force the turnover, try for the three etc...... But on the flipside, if you are leading by 5-6 points with 1 min to go, and the opposition is fouling YOUR players, how important is your freethrow shooting then? I cant say that i remember losing many games where the opposition fouling me and hitting three's at the other end has caused me to lose, but certainly from a 'What does your team do the most often at the end of close games", FT shooting is definately up there in terms of importance and frequency.

So yes you guys are both right, very rarely do you lose by 2 points, but maybe those extra 2 points through, as CrazyEye said, during the previous 47 minutes, puts you into a better position TO win the game in the last minute, or in a better WINNING position, come the last 60 seconds of the game.

Still, if all my players had mediocre JS, and mediocre FT, i know that it wouldnt be the FT that was making me lose games! and I know what im going to be training for the next 12 weeks! ha

I think FT training is a very useful training when you have messed up your training minutes or when you have weeks with only two matches.
I rarely have to decide between JS and FT training. It´s more of FT vs. Stamina training. As it doesn´t make a lot of sense to boost your stamina too much, FT training seems to be the most efficient training in those weeks.

And as you said, in close games your FT percentage can make the difference.

In my last league game I had 18 successful FT attempts out of 33.
This means I missed 15 points, which could have cost me the game.
Maybe I could use some FT training after all. :p

I think you hit the nail on the head with this one brother. Better free throws can alter the end of game scenario. Instead of being down by four you might be down 1 or 2 and that completely changes how your team will need to attack. On the flip side, the ability to ice a game from the line is luxury.

There was an argument long ago about whether jump shot should have FT shooting as a secondary training skill (then you wouldn't have the guy with the awesome jumper, but can't him a FT), but many people argued that they were totally separate skills (myself not among them).

Really? I'm with you. It's borderline ridiculous to say that they're not related skills. They're both shooting skills. Of all the skills we can choose to train in this game, I would argue that jump shot and FT shooting are the 2 most related skills on the list.

Yeah, but you're not good at FT's just cause you're good at Jump shots, just like you're not good at jump shots just cause you can hit free throws.

You still need to practice both. In real life, and in Buzzerbeater this is the case.
