Needless to say, if you have Lebron as a bench player with "Let coach decide", the coach will still give him huge minutes and might even start him because at the end of the day, the Coach wants to try win the game.

This is not true at all, and part of my point.

Perhaps if you play this game for a bit longer, you will figure that out.

Well said.

That is my belief as well and explains a lot on why the substitution patterns appear as they do.

Sometimes you need to think about game engine logic rather than just assume it is a basketball sim and should work the way you want it to work.

Sometimes the logic is a little weird - like when my center, set to play 48 minutes (starter, backup, bench) fouled out the "coach" put in players with the worst ID and RBD available to play center. Just my 2 cents :)

That depends on what your tactics are and who your coach as available to sub on. It could very well be that your worst ID player be the best option at that stage

well for me, my experience is the same as someone who mentioned it before. basically the 'pick from depth chart
is extremely mechanical. theres a particular set amount of time which each person from starter, sub, reserve play from. but coach decide will be the team which the coach believes will be the strongest, depending on offensive/defensive. since my team isn't that great or specialized on both its just the guys with the highest overall stats in that position.....so yeah.

guess we're still waiting for the substitution tactics eh :D

This IS true! I witnessed it many times and I'm in the game from season 10. "Perhaps if you play this game for a bit longer, you will figure that out."

I have the same problem...the starter plays too much...

And i want to ask...Let coach decide...Will the coach pick somebody to sub in? E.G: I want my P.G play whole games, but i win my oppenent by 20---40pts..At last quarter, will back-up SG sub for my PG few mins?

normally not if you have "less enough" players, blowout behaviour is always the same in my eyes.

But it is more likely that he get some bench minutes during the "normal" game, even when it should work in most cases.

That will always happen no matter what coach setting you play because it is a blowout.

If you are expecting a blowout and you want your starter to play the whole game then DON'T put a backup and reserve player in for that position and have your starter be the backup and reserve as well. Also you need to ensure that there are less than 10 players so your player doesn't get subbed out in the event of the blowout
