training 18-30 is about 4 years of training in real life! you could train yourself to be an nba player in that time ;o)
and then to play him four more seasons before his skills start to decline... aish.
on the plus side a player like that id still play in my team at 45 years of age no doubt.
and coincidentally id be about 45 years old in real life too !!

but it is hard to answer this in general, because there are differences betwen a 100k and a 100k backup.

For example my own* Backup PF/C:

Jump Shot: strong Jump Range: respectable
Outside Def.: strong Handling: respectable
Driving: average Passing: strong
Inside Shot: tremendous Inside Def.: sensational
Rebounding: prodigious Shot Blocking: mediocre
Stamina: inept Free Throw: respectable

Experience: strong

salary: 52k

I have no big trouble to bring him even as a starter, and from skill/salary point of view he is pretty close to a perfect backup for me. He got assisted by a 35k multiskilled center, but i won't say that every 35/50 combo would work and that they are enough player like this outside for every div 1 team ... So you go higher in salary, and lower in secondarys(buying price), and you don't get a general answer anymore.

simply not true

yes they are working off totally different formulas

but salary is based on skills for the position which is determined by total skill mix

skillcap is based on skills for the position which is determined by total skill mix

you can not just look at salary and guess accurately how close to capping they are but if you know the skills you can work out both salary and skillcap

Skillcap and salary are related (of course it isn't linear relation). I can say more - I suppose weights of skills in both formulas are the same ;-) Only difference is that formula of potential is linear, whilst formula of salary is exponential. But factors in both formulas could be the same ;-)
