I hear you Sammy.....but my frustration is that I am in a situation where I can't start my starters for fear they will get too many minutes. So I am kind of stuck in no mans land, and that is not realistic. You are right, actual game time is the best way to bring a young guy up, but not being able to play my starters is not realistic. Like you said about Lebron, He had 88 minutes in two games.....does that mean that his game shape would automatically suffer for his next game? In Lebrons case, perhaps maybe so with the bad elbow But by and large, 90 minutes, let alone 75 minutes in two games wouldnt hurt a younger players performance.

Another case, is that in my game, I had a 10+ most if not all the 4th quarter, there were multiple times that it would have made sense to bring in the backups. But you never see an NBA player all of the 1st half. I can see leaving backups on the bench in the 4th quarter of a close game....but in the `1st half, you do your normal substitution pattern and make adjustments in the 2nd half. Even in important games, the backups will spell the starterrs for at least a few minutes.

Three things:
1) This is not a one for one representation of real basketball. It's a close approximation which does a good job of recreating the general spirit of the game. In general players who play more get better faster, players who play too much or too little get out of shape and coaches will play the best players more often. Since it is a game it also requires modifcations to make it more challenging and competitive - one of those is the somewhat wonky minutes. Setting your minutes properly is not supposed to be easy.
2) Stop thinking about it in terms of the NBA. Your team, like almost all the teams in the game, is not in the BB version of the NBA. In minor leagues across the planet you will regularly see star players play 48 minutes (or 4 minutes) a game, teams not show up, one player putting up 45 points per game or averaging 20 rebounds, players taking 17 three pointers and hitting two of them, and all the other "unrealistic" things that happen in this game.
3) If you want to carefully regulate minutes then stop using "depth chart until fourth" and just go with "strictly follow depth chart."

I just looked at your roster and refuse to help you since I see you are selling your New Zealand player....

Just joking. And I can normally get away with my players playing 70-80 minutes without their gameshape dropping. Sometimes over 80 and I still see no gameshape drop.

And get your team 20+ points ahead in the 4th and you will see the bench empty :P haha

Hey Sammy, that is one thing I keep hearing, blow everyone out, andou clear the bench....Okay, I will start doing that :-)

Actually it kills me to sell Reg John.....Rating wise, he does not look very impressive except for his rebounding....but for whatever reason, the guy performs when he gets in the game. If he gets 18+ minutes he will get over 10 rebounds. And he is a good defensive center....But I have added some really strong veteran big men, and Big John is getting squeezed out. If not for the 4213 salary, i'd probably keep him for depth but it doesnt make sense to pay a guy 17K a month who probably won't play at all. He was one of the first guys I bought when I took over this team, so the dude has sentimental value to me too :-)

BTW Sammy, I just got off the phone with Reg John....He told me he has heard great things about you as an owner! He really wants to go home, he promises to work his butt off for you if you buy him :-)

Send John home, send John Home!!

P.S. He has a little sister who misses her big brother...do the right thing, bring him home!! :-)

Haha I have a couple to many big men already and they don't get game time so Reg would just be sitting round all day at my team. I'm sure someone will pick him up. He looks like a good option for a team that likes to play outside attack and keep a strong inside def.

hi Jerry, I have been using Depth chart Til 4th

You might try Strictly Follow Depth Chart. That gives the coach the least freedom to choose who plays. If nothing else, it will give you a baseline reading of how good your starters are relative to the backups.

As others have said, the coach will sub in players when the backup would be more effective than the starter. I can't see your players' ratings. But based on what I can see, frankly, I can't imagine that your starters are significantly better than your backups. So I don't think that's the issue. Maybe your starters have really, really good stamina. If not, your coach probably just needs to have his decision-making curtailed a bit.

One other thing: is your Foul Trouble option set to "Let Them Play" or "Sit Them"? It doesn't look like your players foul a lot, but "Sit Them" can get your backups some extra minutes if a starter happens to pick up two fouls early.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

That maybe true, but at least he'd be sitting in a place that is much closer to his sad sister :-) haha

HI! I just read this following my game....I did use Strictly follow depth Chart, and have always had it set to Sit Them when in foul trouble. I also followed someone elses advice for this game, and just made sure it was a blowout ;) Actually, we did very well! Minute distribution was great, things worked out like I would like to see!! And we won by 26 on the road, with Take it easy :-) All in all, a good night!
