Selling out your arena shouldn’t be the goal. You should be looking at maximising your profits.
You should try to sell as many tickets you can at a high price. This means when have a lower ranked team play at your home court you sell less tickets than when you have a top team play.
If you are selling out your arena when you play a lower ranked team you are losing profits when a higher ranked team comes and play.
I can’t say this is a fool proof way of setting up your arena as I am still just experimenting with it and my prices (I set my lower tier to low for the current period) but as I see it, if I go the way I am going it provides me with a lot more flexibility in the future. As if I have 18k bleachers the most I can get from these seats is $20, so $360k. But if I have 9k bleachers and 9k Lower Tier I can get 180k + 630k. I know that’s not likely but 180k + 360k is….
Besides, if all else fails I can just set my lower tier seats to $20 and all I have lost is the initial cost. (This will never happen)

i get what saying but do the research it doesnt work , lower tier wont sell enough seats at $40 to make that 360k .
look at massens arena he cant get to 8000 fans in his lower at $30 , how are you going to get 9k at $40
i understand fully what your saying and i hope you prove me wrong because what your suggesting is basicaly how i wanted to build my arena.
but as i said it just doesnt seem to work.

I think my arena is almost perfect..I make about 550K a game and if I sell out I would be close to 600K
Arena Bleachers : 16417 (Current Price: $16) (Price as of 10/9/2010: $16)
Lower Tier : 3605 (Current Price: $51) (Price as of 10/9/2010: $51)
Courtside Seats : 500 (Current Price: $177) (Price as of 10/9/2010: $177)
Luxury Boxes : 49 (Current Price: $850) (Price as of 10/9/2010: $850)
Total Capacity : 20571

I'd like to know PR managers levels etc for all this research you have done, but I guess that is impossible.
Is Massendefekt the highest ranked team with a arena setup the way he has it?
Another interesting build would be one with more lower tier than bleechers. Say 12k Lower Tiers at $30 or $25. At $30 it would be the same as having 18k lower tiers but you would also have 8k bleechers as well. At $25 it would be like having 15k bleechers...
You would probably need a high level team and a high level PR man to sell that out thou.

the problem is you just cant get that many fans into your lower tiers at that prices from what i have seen.
and yes massen was the highest ranked with that type of arena.
massen cant get 8k people in at 30 , why do you think you can get in 12k at 30 or even 25 ?
it just doesnt add up , as much as id like it too.
what your missing in your above example also is that the people with 15k bleachers at $20 a seat still have 3000-4500 lower tier at like 60-70 dollars.
which completely kills the model your suggesting.

Yeah I realized after that post that I was missing the 200 odd K of the lower tier tickets at the higher price.
It's really hard to compare thou unless you had 2 identical teams with the same season ticket holder amounts, the same PR manager and player the same team on the same night with the exact same ranking and fan surveys.
Who are you comparing Massen to? Teams that are ranked in the top 10 in the world or teams ranked in the 80's like him? Could influence crowd numbers.
I myself am still going for the higher lower tiers build as I can afford it and I can see myself being better off in the long run. At worst I will be even with those who have lots and lots of bleachers.

i compared him to pretty much every other div 1 team there is with 20k seats or more.
At worst I will be even with those who have lots and lots of bleachers.
i believe this to be partially true , from what i could see you end up with slightly lower overall income from your arena.
but it costs alot more to build.
350% more to build

Ok, I'm doing some calculations based on the number 1 ranked team in the world. You probably know a team with better income so link me to him ok?
http://www.buzzerbeater.com/team/26163/arena.aspx
I'm looking at lower tier and bleacher income only. He got 285k and 206k for his two sections which equals 491k total selling 19204 tickets.
If I have 8.5k bleechers and 12k lower tier at, if I sell the same amount of tickets I would only need to sell them at $29 to make the same amount of money.
Who knows if I would sell more or less tickets, it is hard to tell. Since my lower tier prices are lower you would think I would sell more because of the way that it works, but would 6k fans be willing to pay $10 more for an upgrade from bleechers to lower tier? Guess there is only one way to find out....
