Why is it that hard?

Seems like there's a lot of people that don't want to have 15 minutes of no action while watching a game.

NO ONE at this table ordered a rum & Coke
Charles: Penn has some good people
A CT? Really?
Any two will do
Any three for me
Any four will score
Any five are live

that might be true.

but I don't see any of those suggesting anything usefull either.
Sorry I do not find substituting 15 minutes with 5 minutes a good option, au contraire (on contrary for the English) 5 minutes makes you stay at your pc, unles you want to risk loosing some action, 15 minutes gives you time to fetch a drink, go to the toilet, scrol through your stats and economy and stuff, or all kinds of other things one might want to do...
A quick calculation makes me conclude this: 5 minutes break: 5 minutes of waiting. 15 minutes break: go to the toilet, grab a bag of salts, get a glas of soda, get a new hankey to dry my tears, feed the anoying cat that gets in my sight if I don't give her attention,... good well, nicely, there's 40 seconds left... wich makes the wait 40 seconds. I'd rather wait 40 seconds than 5 minutes...

I am not against dismissing the 15 minutes, but I don't want to see it replaced with a worse solution.

Either keep the 15 minutes, or make it 15 seconds.
Be a little honest here everyone will you. Are you seriously wanting to wait 5 minutes, wait 3 minutes? NO ofcourse not, you don't want to wait at all, you want to game to get on, see what happens, 15 seconds is torture enough to let you wait. So please do NOT propose a time which you will find too long as well. Don't settle for 'less wait is a better wait' it is still wait! If you want to get rid of the wait, ask for 15 seconds, if you like to take a break, keep the 15 minutes so people can actually DO something in that time. Well 10 would do I think, but no less, anything less would force you to not leave your pc, making it a 'forced' wait.

At least, that's what I think. ;)

If you go by train and come to the station and there get the message that you have to wait one hour for the next train. Do you feel glad for an extra hour that you can freely use for what ever you will? Or do you get angry for this hour wasted?

Hard to tell who acts like the first and who act like the second. I am so old that every minute (or year) is some sort of bonus. So "waste of time" is a non-existing possibility.
To me Unkel is on the right track. Keep on!

now this is a very nice example.
However it has little to do with the mid-game break.
But yes, some people might be glad it is an hour so they get the opportunity to visit that famous bar or bookstore before their next train leaves, would they only get 15 minutes they would have to wait...
Ofcourse most people will just wait because they don't find anything to do.
This is diffrent at home. At home you have options, many options, of things you like to do during a short break.
Also you can go to the toilet while on the train, so there is no real need for a break to releave yourself, while if you don't want to miss any second of the game, you will have to wait until there is a break...

Say it is a hot day and you are dying for a soda. You nkow the only place you can get one is in that little shop that is away about 10 minutes walk from the station where the train stops and you know your next will leave in 15 minutes.
I bet you would wish for 2 options:
1: the trains leaves a little later, say after 30 minutes, so you can get the soda and have returned in time for the train, and quench your thirst. Or...
2: the next train leaves after 1 or 2 minutes, so you don't have to wait an extra 15 minutes before you get home and can get a drink.

you know what I'm saying...
:)
(correct answer: no half-solutions, either no wait, or a decent break, no half'half sh*t that is annoying everyone)

Hum!
- a great philosophical question of "waste of time" is brought down to a question of soda -
When it comes to 'soda' or something of the sort, I think the ecological ones are so high above the others in taste and flavor, so I am willing to walk (or even run) for ten or twelve minutes to get one.
:o)
No joke!
