we are talking about "5th place is the new 4th place"
So if there was bonus for finising in top positions the teams wouldnt try to lose last few matches...

situation for my club would look like this if I finished fourth:

player salaries 720k - arena income 165k = 550k expenses

So one week of playoffs will cost me 550k (assuming that the fourth seed will lose against the no 1 seed), as the fifth seed I would save that money.

If the dropoff from fifth to sixth place is quite significant (tanking teams, bots whatever...) and I can tank a week or two without falling below 5th place the money saved is even more, so a clever manager could save around a million more just by finishing fifth.

Now please show me how I can make 550k-1.5 million more only through ticket sales and merchandise revenue (which seems to be pretty random and erratic to me).

lol, of course it cant be lucratve for you to finish 4th. But that isnt because 4th place is worse than 5th place, its because your team is performing bad! You have the 3rd highest salary in your league, according to buzzerbeaterstats. So you should finish at least 3rd or even 2nd. 4th place isnt designed to benefit teams that are performing bad and paying to high salaries for their output ....

The salaries dont tell the whole story, my team could have won three more games - lost two of them because I made bad decisions and one because of a bugged lineup. I am tied third overall, so I am quite happy with my progress so far. Plus one team in front of me had salaries of more than 1 mil throughout the whole season starter to dismantle its roster just a few weeks ago.

Then i dont understand why you take your team as an example for saying 5th is better than 4th. your not in this situation. teams with lower salary are in this situation and for them it might be profitable to be 4th. I am for example. i could have gone for place 5 but because my salary isnt so high (a bit under the leagues average), i choosed place 4 and think that it will be better for me.

but there are also league where you land around place 5 with his salry, don't know how it look this year in germany because we have a bunch of cheap team in it but the last 3-4 season 700k was around the average bewtwen 3 and 5.

But he should have consider that you alweays had a chanche to get the next round, sometimes it is higher or lower but it exist.

you could easily sell some of your end of the roation guys and reduce your payroll signifacently


there are none ;-) even if i try to get a bit younger by selling my backcourt-backups.

5th is the better option for me than 4th by far

if i had not messed the cupsemis by accidentally playing less effort, i probably had a game next week anyway. in this case i'd like to compete with you in the playoffs ;-)

but as it is right now... i favour to finish 5th. just a rational argument.
