How many american players in basketball play for different NT?


max one for each country, and this is mostly based on the limitations of foreign players in lot of european leagues. Thats why lot of player search for european uncles/grand parents etc. to get a european passsport, and that this don't take this long they often had to commit to play for the NT teams(and often don't play a minute in their country for clubs).

Tehri is also the possibility to get it through marriage, but i don't thing that everyone marriage after beiing x year in a country and even then you sometimes have additional restrictions before you could change your nationality.

You really haven’t understood idea in this thread at all. It’s not about naturalizing players developed by someone else. If we talk about 5 seasons playing in country before possibility of naturalizing, you cannot buy 24 years old developed player for this purpose because he could be naturalized in his 29. It’s about buying young player, train him and maybe once (if former country is not interested in him) you can naturalize him.

But country A has 5 years to call him. Once he plays for country A (even scrimmage for U21 - it depends how it would be designed) he can't play for country B anymore.

for me the suggestion will only make sense, when they are considered for "national" in snse of marketing not NT, because this will lead to scary NT scrimmages and would be silly when you have a player for a long time and you want to gain the merch profit but it doesn't work because he played a meaningless game in the past.

And as i said, changing of the Nationality the place where you live is only a small factor.

This could turn U21 into stealer of NT players.

I think that is important that player have the option to play for another country even if he played any match for native country already. This is because would be easy to get to any great talent just 1 match and then he would be fixed (uvázaný) for that country for the rest of his life. So I think that would solve that problem - if NT manager want this player available for his roster, he has to give him at least 1 match per season.

Maybe it looks like loose idea, but it's quite common.


I agreed that's common, its jut a bad idea. What happens when the next world cup is made up of 24 teams of naturalized Brazilian soccer players. Wow...go my country! Or rather, go my Brazilians!

It's not only about NT, but also about merchandise. Domestic players give much more for merchandise than foreigners. If player after 5 seasons in my team can have second nationality he can bring me additional income of merchandise even if he is playing for NT of his first nationality.
In general I like this idea.


I agree - bottom line is the change if implemented successfully would help create more parity at National Team level, it would maybe encourage clubs to buy and keep and phase out trading or consistently upgrading...

Remember the larger nations will always be able to do what the smaller ones can. (ie. Buy up foreign players etc) BUT the difference is they can only allocate the same number of NT roster spots.

Where this would help smaller nations is say I (Japanese team) buy a semi-decent US Trainee...the US NT managers would have to call him and play him at least once to prevent him from ever playing on the Japan team and with many other US trainees chances are if i train him well (but not that well :D) I can keep for 5 seasons, convert and then maybe he'll play for Japan or at least he'll have dual nationality (so I get rewarded with some more merch for the trade off of not trading him)

A US team buys a Japanese (or other smaller nation) trainee... chances are much higher that he will feature if trained reasonably well for the Japan NT so this would mean he could never be converted to a US NT player although again the US team has the benefit that in 5 seasons he too could be considered US by his inherited nationality for merchandise benefits.

The biggest countries will always be the biggest - you honestly dont need to worry about the smaller nations.. sure we might improve but 50 managers will never be able to build a NT to defeat 5,000 and if they do then the 5,000 should seriously question their strategy!
