You and Nth were like Celtic and Rangers that season. Since then you've won the league by 8, 7, 9 and 5 games clear of the #2 team.

Just like Celtic and Rangers this year!

I know there are at least four huge Maurice Edu fans here, maybe more.

Interesting minutes for me, every single player had either 16 or 32 minutes.

How big does someone have to be in order to be huge?

Very little good has happened in the SPL for a while.

Just to make it clear, if I happened to be placed in the big 8 during end of season processing last season I would be trying the same thing against KDB & Bulls. This isn’t a personal vendetta against dhoff, far from it, he just happens to be occupying the top spot in my conference at the moment. I hope another manager gets the ball rolling in the big 8.

As I see it the advantages in BB are gameshape, enthusiasm, and playoff home court. We are able to manage our gameshape through controlling our players minutes (or training it). We are able to manage our enthusiasm through deciding our TIE / N / CT path throughout the season. We control who we play TIE / N / CT against.

However as a group, we choose to gift playoff home court to the same teams every season by LETTING THEM KNOW we are going to TIE against them.

Why?

Essentially teams have become caught up in the automatic TIE (often mutual) against a stronger opposition. It is an easy conclusion to reach, after all the rest of the league is likely to play TIE (possibly mutual) against them as well. Our reasoning is simple: if we don’t do this we fall behind the pack.

I am of the opinion that this line of thinking is WRONG.

The US has had the same 3 teams winning a majority of the trophies & collecting the money each season. The pack has appeared to be patiently waiting for the trophy winning teams to either make mistakes or lose interest in the game. These teams don’t make many mistakes.

There is an order at the moment & we are not closing the gap. What we have been doing as a group is not working. It is time to try something new.

Reasoning

If managers start to show they are willing to play CT against the teams winning trophies this forces the teams that are winning trophies to have to decide which effort level they will select the next time those teams meet.

Banking enthusiasm remains an option; however the decision is no longer automatic when they face the UNKNOWN & realistic possibility of a loss (we have CT'd them before & didn't organise a MTIE this game).

We are taking away their security.

This is going to lead to more normals played by the teams who have won trophies (they want to keep winning) which means LESS ENTHUSIASM FOR THEIR NEXT GAME.

Our actions have removed part of their enthusiasm advantage which increases the chance of them dropping other games as well.

Why go after the teams that are winning trophies?

They have the cash flow. This cash flow allows them to support the trophy winning payroll. They keep on making the cash due to the easy league ride they get from the rest of us.

When we take this easy league ride away from them they lose their enthusiasm advantage. They lose games. Less fans attend their arena. Their cash flow begins to reduce. Their advantage over the rest of us reduces. Another manager takes the top spot & gets the cash flow for a season. We become more even as a group. The order begins to change.

I loved your post, but I would like to point out that I have the 5th highest payroll this season. I'm 80K less than #4, and 147K less than #1. My payroll is only 48K more than #12.

I think my payroll, over the past couple seasons, has consistently been between 5th and 9th overall.

Exactly why you should be CT'd, you're banking tons of money with those extremely effective and relatively low-salaried players!

Anyway, I'm all for a collective CT on the trophy winners from the last couple seasons.
