How to connect to the BuzzerBeater IRC network with mIRC:Contrary to common belief, the BB IRC network is not exclusive to the BB website. You can access it with a regular IRC client, like the well-known mIRC, for example. You can download it for free here:
http://www.mirc.com/.
1. After you download the setup, install and open the program, a trial message will show up. Don't worry, even when the trial time expires, you'll still be able to use the program. For that square to clear up, just click on 'Continue', after that the 'mIRC Options' window will show up automatically.
2. Introduce your 'full name' and 'email address' (not recommended to be the real ones) and your 'nickname' and an 'alternative'.
3. At the left side you'll see various options. For now, lets click where it says 'Server'.
4. On the right side, click on the 'Add' button and the 'Add Server' window will show up.
5. In 'Description' write “BuzzerBeater” (without the double quotes), in 'IRC Server' write “irc.buzzerbeater.org” and on 'Group' you can write “BuzzerBeater” as well.
6. Click on 'OK' and you're back on the 'mIRC Options' window.
7. On the 'mIRC Options' window, select the server you've just created and click on the 'Select' button, which lead us back to the 'Connect' tab'.
8. (Optional step). On the left side menu, select 'Options' and click on the 'Perform' button. Select the 'Enable perform on connect' option and click on the 'Add' button. Select the 'BuzzerBeater' network and click 'OK'. Below 'Perform commands:' write: “/msg nickserv identify [your password]” and click on 'OK'. It will allow you to automatically identify you nickname every time you open mIRC. This is not advised on shared computers for obvious reasons.
On the 'mIRC Options' window click 'OK'.
9. Now, leave mIRC alone, open your browser and visit this website:
http://acko.net/blog/utf-8-mirc.
10. Scroll down until you see the phrase 'download the script here' and then click on it. Save the .zip file and extract only the file named 'utf-8.mrc'.
11. Put it on the following directory of your computer 'C:\Documents and Settings\[your computer's username]\Application Data\mIRC\'.
12. Back on IRC client you're using, on the blank window, write "/load -rs utf-8.mrc". A window will show up talking about the script and click on 'Yes'.
13. Then, on the top left side of the screen, above the 'File' menu, you'll see a lightning button. Click on it to connect to the network, then join your national channels and chat with your buddies or join the #Global channel and make new ones!
14. (Optional step). The final step is “how to auto-join channels”. On the same line of the thunder icon, there will be a button with a heart and a # (on regular mIRC, it should be the third one from the left). Click on it and then click on the 'Add' button. Below 'Channel:' write the name of the channel you want and on the right, select the 'Join on connect' option. On the bottom of that window, click on 'Add' and select the 'BuzzerBeater' network, then click 'OK'. Back to the 'Add Channel' window and click 'OK' again. If you want to add any other channel, follow the same steps. When you're finished, click 'OK' on the 'Add Channel' window. The next time you connect the BuzzerBeater network, you'll join those channels automatically.
After this, just use it normally. This is particularly helpful if you want to use the chat but don't want to watch any particular match, since Flash occupies a significant amount of RAM space.
I would like to thank dELUXE on finding the UTF-8 script that allows the mIRC client to be completely compatible with the BuzzerBeater IRC network.
