It does have a number of uses, yes. For trainees, knowing the DMI can help determine the projected salary for next season. That is, if a trainee has proficient game shape, the DMI allows you to calculate his projected salary.

On the other hand, for players that are not trained any more, you can calculate the exact game shape (e.g. for a player with strong GS, whether it's 8.1 or 8.9) from the DMI and the salary.

When your opponent has a player he has trained, it can help you know how much better the player has gotten while his salary hasn't updated.

Actually that is the equation (proficient gs value = salary x 10) It isn't perfectly accurate but as Mathcorejay said, I've found it to be fairly useful for determining what the salaries of my trainees will be next season.

also u can see the sublevels of gameshape and how good a player will play.
