In general I prefer 1v1 forwards, even for guards, as handling and driving train a bit faster than with 1v1 guards, and there is an added training for IS. The JS trains a bit slower than with 1v1 guards.

Of course, it can be a bit challenging getting your guard trainees into league games at SF and PF. But that's the trade off.

My suggestion is to do some jump range training while he is still 18. If you are lucky, you can get it up to prominent, and jump shot will pop twice as well (from the JR training). That way, when you do driving, you will keep the Jump Shot/ Jump range ratio low --> a really good thing for his future.
