3 0:00 61 — 61 H. Hawthorne (A) gets off a great pass to J. Sexton (A). J. Sexton (A) fires up a three-point shot from the corner. Scored.
3 0:00 61 — 61 The shot was assisted by H. Hawthorne (A).
3 0:00 61 — 61 A buzzerbeater for J. Sexton (A)!
3 0:00 61 — 61 End of period.

The problem is, Hawthorne has not subbed into the game even once, and was not on the floor when the play happened. In fact, he's still not on the floor, but he does have an assist in 0 minutes played.

Edit: oops forgot to include the match (http://www.buzzerbeater.com/match/36158120/reportMatch.as...) (http://www.buzzerbeater.com/match/36158120/pbp.aspx)

Now that the match is over, the boxscore confirms that Hawthorne never touched the floor:
H. Hawthorne Did Not Play - Coach's Decision

This includes a one assist discrepancy between the viewer and the boxscore. It's like the play never happened, save for the points and FG/att added to Sexton's boxscore. Since the game went into overtime, and this happened at the end of the third quarter, without this play, I should not have won the game, and rather should have lost in regulation.

For my own sake, I hope it's just a bug in the viewer, not the GE. Though, it does have me wondering how many other assists might be illusions...

I think this is just a bug on the viewer, not the engine. The worst consequence is the guy who actually makes the assist not getting credit for it. There is a similar play when a player goes to the basket guarded closely by player-on-the-bench. (I wonder if in BB the benches are under the basket!)

The difference is that the player defending from the bench can't pad his stats in the league leaders by defending a play from the bench. If I'm not mistaken, assist leaders are tied slightly to merchandise income, which makes this more important.

What's more, we can't really know how effective our players are if the ones dishing assists (or even defending) are chosen at random, and can include guys who still have their warm-ups on.

But in all other plays you can see how effective your players are, it's at most one basket a game where this bug happens. So overall there's still a big sample to evaluate your performance on
