It is possible to get a great player in the second round, just not likely. For example, this past draft I had the 14th pick and the 30th. With the 14th pick, I got a 5/5 A- ATG potential 18yo, Brian Alexander
(24739753). With the second pick, I got my second choice, a 5/5 A+ superstar potential 18yo, Andrew DeJesus
(24739728). In terms of skills, DeJesus is one of the best players I've seen, with 56 total skill points to start and only slight weaknesses in handling and driving, nothing some 1v1 can't cure. And of course ATG potential for Alexander speaks for itself, even if his skills leave something to be desired. My situation is different from yours in that I'm in a D.V league with a fair amount of clueless and/or inactive managers, but it is still possible, especially if you have a high pick (which it seems you will).
