Better put it everywhere. And in my opinion it IS a bug - because if you've got an option to switch off social media buttons and you still see one (because it's a new one), it's a bug. Or they have to rename that option to "switch off the old social media buttons but not the new one".

Not to worry, I've expected this. We'll probably go for another option in the preferences that will enable you to hide the "share" buttons, others will have to remain. You'll have to give me some time to implement that but it will be done.
