Are you sure about this comment? I have always heard it was minutes played. It wasn't quality of minutes but rather importance of the game that mattered.(Someone posted this back in the day)
Let's say...a regular season game(not TV or rival) =1.0
For example; minutes in Playoff games/TV games/Rival games/NT games/Cup Games would be more like 1.15-1.3
You also get experience for scrimmages but it's around .5 or .6
For the origanal poster....Level 1 to level 2 takes about 850-1000 minutes total(all games including scrimmages)
but the minutes you need for higher experience pops goes up too. In my experience...
Level 2 to 3 took one of my players 1272 minutes and my other guy who played more scrimmages while training took 1380.
Level 3 to 4 took my player 1426 minutes but by then he was good enough to start and get real game/playoff game minutes.
Level 4 to 5 took 1585 minutes...again a much better player who starts for me now.
Right now this player is between level 5 and 6...825 minutes deep to be exact...last season he got a cup trophy and now he is getting BB3 minutes and NT minutes....
This is the player I am talking about..
(20314475)...feel free to click on his career stats and check it out..he averages around 750-950 minutes a season.(his most is season 18 and he played 940 minutes and his worse was season 17 where he only played 758 due to a two week injury)) I have only tracked one other player on my watch and from level 5 to 6 took that player 1689 minutes. Let's see if I can get that down due to BB3 games and NT games...Hope this helps..
BTW...I got a new HOF draft pick which I will be tracking...I post when he pops to level 2
