You just answered your own questions on both why he did it and if it was a good idea (it clearly was).

If you have the better team and still don't think he can beat you playing at home why would he play TIE, risk losing and willfully put himself in a position where he needs to beat you playing on the road?

Plus he has 4 games between now and possibly meeting you in the 2nd round of the playoffs which is plenty of time to rebuild his enthusiasm to a decent level. Playing on the road is a much bigger disadvantage then having 1 or 2 pts less than your opponent in enthusiasm and that isn't even debatable.

Is playing on the road considered that great an advantage in the playoffs? I am interested in this information, as it will be my first time since starting that I have HCA throughout the playoffs.

Playing with HCA in general gives you a bit of an advantage. I've heard a few people say it's like having a 5-10 point advantage, but I'm unsure if that's true. IIRC, I also hear that you get a small boost in ID and REB.

I had someone who has played for ages at top level leagues and NT sides say it is worth 10 to 12 points with HCA.
It is a big deal IMO. I have played in finals with a better side in better gameshape and I think on better enthus and lost due to HCA.

I'm very happy to have it locked away already for the finals.

It is also give him HCA in the final which is a big deal. Means if he does get past you he will win it all.
Seems a decent idea to me.

It will be interesting to see the results, with you, myself and Rimmers all having HCA and hoping to promote at the same time.

All things being equal, I believe that home court is about a 7-10 point advantage over playing on a neutral court. So in the playoffs, that advantage is actually doubled because the only 2 options are that you're either playing in your arena or your opponents arena.

Using the example in this thread, that guy probably just gained at least 15 extra points if not 20 by making sure he won the league game and secured home court.

Yeh it should be good. Maybe we will end up in the same league. 1 in 4 chance.

Really , im not sure its worth that much 8-10 points max . No way its worth 20 , he had +2 enthusiasm on me and i had to play a lineup of 5 guards because all my bigmen got injured at the same time. Yet he only beats me 20 , so your telling me that his team playing look inside with +2 difference against my walking wounded team are equal. I dont buy that. Anyway im sure il turn this guy over at any court when my guys come back from injury.

I think you misunderstood the context. Home court is worth about 7-10 points over a neutral court. The fact that you don't have home court (losing 7+ pts) and your opponent gains home court (gaining 7+ pts) will obviously double that number for a head to head playoff game. That's assuming the same enthusiasm, similar gameshape no injuries etc...

If you're 25-30 pts better than your opponent on a neutral count as you appear to be claiming, home court shouldn't matter. But if you're only 10-15 pts better then he is then you're going to be in tough. Only you can answer this last part.
