While you're here complaining about shot blocking, the rest of BB is celebrating the new year. As for your predicament, are your opponents missing shots? Isn't that really the goal?

Please post the full skillset of all players involved, as well as the tactics, so we can make up an explanation for you.

Not sure you need more than 18 BS and 18 ID and man to man

Three possible explanations:

1.) If your players OD is less than 8 he is absolute ubertrash and you should not be surprised to see him fail miserably. I would not touch such a player with a ten feet long stick!!1!1evelven

2.) What do you expect from a player with X experience and stamina?!

3.) Variance of course

Other possible answers: Opponent had better strategy, better passing, court advantage (PR guy with away bonus), gameshape, motivation, your guys ID is too high...

-----------

Now the serious part: I am going through hell with my 16 16 SG, who can't hit the broad side of a barn in whatever offense I choose. I guess the engine might fail miserably form time to time - we have to accept that.

That's odd my SG with lvl 5 SB has 4 block already this season :)
If you look at your guys stats from last season, you can see that he had 2.1 SB per game (that's very high) and it is very likely that he will have similar stats this season, so sometimes he will have 7 blocks other times 0.

I would call 2.1 blocks/game very high, but I wouldn't call it exceptionally high. In the NBA (I know, BB isn't the NBA, but for modeling/comparison purposes), the league leader last year (Serge Ibaka) had 3.03 blocks per game. This year's season leader so far is Anthony Davis at 3.18 blocks per game. The all-time leader for a season ever in the NBA was 5.56 (Mark Eaton 84-85) and the lowest season leader ever was 2.58 (Bogut 10-11).

So, great shot blockers don't average a TON of blocked shots. 3.0/game is high. My league leaders (DIII USA) were 3.3 and 3.2 blocks/game last season.

So in terms of blocks/game, the stats in BB seem somewhat true to reality. But, we can't see the live game action, so we don't know if shotblockers are altering or preventing a lot of shots. That's the frustrating and uncertain part. If we had a stat for 'opponent FG%' and 'opposing team FG%', that'd help a lot. I know M2M vs zone defeneses would skew that statistic, but it'd be more helpful than nothing. Or the NBA has a "Defensive Rating" stat which measures the points allowed per 100 possessions while a player is on the court. Defensive Rating is better than the +/- stat for individual games because it isolates defense instead of combining it with offense.

My best blocker had 4.9 blks/game last season. The second and third one had 2.5 and 2.4. I checked the last two seasons of my best blocker:
14.2 defense actions per game
Defensive success rate at 73%
Shooting foul rate 5%
Blocking rate 34%

The other two had 76% and 82% (defense successful) and 35% and 31% (blocking rate). It works for my team. ;-)
And two of these three are still trainees and receive SB training.

But level of play counts too...in lower leagues less people play LI, and you are playing a lot of 3-2 which helps the blocking because inside players are matched up against guards a lot of times. And jumpshots/drives are much easier to block than inside shots.
