(baloon)Season 30 Team Announcement: (baloon)

Starting with the season 30 captain.

Small Fowards
Maverick Parkes (32953627) (BB)
aka: Maverick
NBA resemblance: Kevin Durant
NBL resemblance: Mark Worthington

This guy needs no introduction. Played 8 of the 9 games as a 20yr old in the season 29 team, and finishing 3rd in the season MVP votes, twice finishing as the leading scorer. Maverick was labelled as a freak player by the Australian community, with a complete skill set. Parkes will find a way to score, defend you, and get his team mates involved. He can line up in any of the 5 court positions, and will have a mismatch on his opponent at each one of them. Look out world, this guy is now experienced and will keep the statistician busy every single night.

Knud Binn (32953496) (BB)
aka: The Garbage Man
NBA resemblance: Shawn Marion
NBL resemblance: DeAndre Daniels

Binn worked his butt off in the preseason to get in shape and be seen as a player capable of playing SF/PF. His aggression on the glass will no doubt be an asset to the team, giving them second opportunities in offense, and "taking out the trash" in defense. Not many SFs can look to post double doubles from the SF position, give him the time on the court, and watch this guy do it!

Guards:

Jim Hamburger (32953340) (BB)
aka: Hamburger, the rectum rocket.
NBA resemblance: Kobe Bryant
NBL resemblance: Andrew Gaze

The vice captain of this side, there are some huge expectations on this kid. Bagged 3 world cup u21 matches last season as a 20year old in a high quality team. Jimmy has a "score first, think second" mind set which can be devastating for both teams on the floor. He has been likened to some of the games greatest players, and his scorers mentality will warrant the labels. You wont need to look far down the boxscore to find his name, he should lead the team in scoring most nights.

Stacey Kewell (32954252) (BB)
aka: Harry
NBA resemblance: Tony Parker
NBL resemblance: Corey "Homicide" Williams

A multidimensional point guard, Stacey will run the team on the floor on most nights. His uncanny ability to find team mates open will frustrate opponents seeming to be playing great D. His recent 62pt game (which also included 8 steals) emphasizes his mindset this season. "If i dont feel im being given respect, im going to show my defender that he needs to focus" Kewell said in his interview post selection.

Redbacks
Cai Xingui (32953905) (BB)
aka: kissing guy, CIA guy.
NBA resemblance: Manu Ginobilli
NBL resemblance: Gary Ervin

Cai is the ultimate team member. The hardest at training, last to leave the gym, and always finding a way to improve his game. Being devloped from the highly renown "Flow Gaming Basketball Academy", Cai comes in with strong fundamentals. You can see by looking into his eyes he means business, and his hard nosed approach is what wins him many contests.

Pete McArthur (32953825) (BB)
aka: Vodafone Pete
NBA resemblance: Rajon Rondo
NBL resemblance: Tywain McKee

A play maker, Vodafone Pete is lightning quick and has amazing court vision. The Roaddogs have done a fantastic job developing this lad, and his leadership on and off the court will holf both them and Australia in good stead.

To be continued...

Australia defeats South Korea 111-56
(31951)

The first round of the Continental Championships have begun, with Australia off to a flying 55pt win. The game, at a user friendly time of 7pm (AWST) was a full house, with a late rush of various fans. The cause was the forfeit across the road, with U.A.E. getting sidetracked eating at Andre's restaurant, a fine dining experience in Chinatown. Taiwan fans split in their ways, half going to the restaurant direct to rally in protest, and the other half topping up the numbers in the game of most interest.

The quality off-season training and scrimmages appeared to pay off for the Aussies, with the team showing great touch around the rim, and shooting at a high clip. The flow and movement of the ball was a particular highlight, seeing 10 of the 11 players record an assist or more. Highlighting this flow was "CIA" with his 8 dimes, finding more available people than an online dating service. One of those people was Maverick, who equal topped scored with the man feeding him all night. The second quarter in particular was a spectacular as the team stormed to a 27-6 scoring quarter to the green and gold.

Santegoeds started his season off with a commanding double-double, earning the coaches praise post match for controlling the paint. Jacki Chan also earnt praise from team management with his speed and sleight of hand, taking 5 balls off South Korea that were never seen as his.

MVPs
3. CIA (18pts, 8 assists, 4 steals)
2. Maverick (18pts, 5 rebs, 1 steal, 1 assist)
1. Jacki Chan (10rebs, 9 pts, 5 steals)

Next week is a scheduled bye from competitive matches, so I will book a scrimmage and set it at a viewable time.

Australia defeats UAE 112-38
(31957)

Reports the keyway were not measured correctly sparked high interest as Australia cruised to victory in Singapore. The error in measurement didn't affect the game too much, apart from the free throw shooting which, in total, dipped to under 50% including 5 airballs from the charity stripe. UAE put out a respectable team, including beast of the boards Najjar, who pulled in the ball a cool 23 times throughout the match. But the Aussie team, stacked with talent, cruised to victory, nearly outscoring the UAEs total game score in the first quarter alone.

MVPs
3 votes- Phan (18pts, 9-15fg, 13 rebs, 5 assists)
2 votes- Kewell (14pts, 7 assists, 4 steals, 3 rebounds)
1 vote- CIA (18pts, 4 assists, 3 steals)

Next week its Vietnam. Correct court size is important if we are to shoot high percentage free throws.

Australia CT'd by the Nguyens.
(31961)

Vietnam threw some hard punches, but Australia managed to stay on its feet with a 22pt win in Singapore. The strategy run by the Aussie coach was a chance for a few of the sharp shooters to show what they can do, With CIA and newest member, O'reilly thriving with the open looks. Kewell also upped the defensive pressure, accumulating more steals than points.

For Vietnam, L, V, N and T Nguyen all contributed. Chium also had a career night, knocking in 45 points in 48 minutes.

MVPs
3 votes- CIA (23pts, 4 assists)
2 votes- O'Reilly (15pts, 4 rebs, 4ass, 3 stls)
1 vote- Phan (12pts, 10 rebs, 2 blks)

Next game is Malaysia, game shapes are varying with cup interests, and a few players are training well with the u21 team in their sights.
