I'm not an expert on this, but driving is really the ability to make your own shot (as defined by GLB). So, to some degree, the necessity of driving is dependent on the quality of the point guard and other passers on your team.

My highest scorer for the last three seasons (he's a little old now and his averages have dropped this season), is a SF with atrocious driving.

So that's the way I look at it.

And on my team, my best shooter has the best driving.

I think it is a useful skill but is a secondary one.

You are talking about Hubert Dulacka? Do you play him as a center?

He does have a high FG%.

C/PF.

And yeah, he has a high FG although thats maybe due to me playing weaker teams.

I've noticed that whenever I play against Man to Man, a player with good drive will always shoot better but it also depends on how high their jump shot is. However, I've notice that Centers mainly need IS and RB when playing Look Inside to score well and rarely need drive, but it's always good to have good drive cause they'll always create a couple extra scoring opportunities.

so driving for a center is not a needed skill but also not completely useless?

My highest scorer, Grijalba, ranks #31 in the United States for Field Goal Percentage (#3 in all of division II), and has atrocious Driving, atrocious Handling. I'm not sure what that means but it certainly isn't a desperate requirement to have good handling/driving.

Same here, I own # 11 Germany for FG% and he has driving level 1...

But he is only # 604 for pts/48min.

Therefore (and salarywise) I am considering to add some driving. I would thus be very interested to understand if more driving leads to more points. It should.

It's not all that useless I'd say, but not as important as PF/SF/SG having it. It's always good for a few extra chances.

from BB-Mark after being asked about inside shot and driving for big players in the spanish forum:

"The ability to create (and make) one's own shot does depend on both Driving and Inside Shot... but Driving is weighed more heavily in the calculations."

so more driving will make your players to shoot more and raise his %
