i've been training outside shooting for my wingman for 2 weeks

Players have sub-levels for every skill. Outside shooting is actually one of the skills that takes a bit longer to train (3-4 weeks with a level 5 trainer, if I remember correctly).

All it means is that the guys who popped this week and last week had higher sub-levels than your four other guys who didn't pop.

What you see on your players is not the complete story behind their skill levels. For example, you might see that a guy is respectable in jump shot but all that means is his skill is somewhere between 7 and 8.

So the player in my fictitious example could be low respectable or high respectable. The sub-level, as I have called it here, is the decimal level of the skill that you don't see.
