Driving here is the capacity of creating your own shot, a center needs it when playing one on one.

Shaq was a great scorer because of his post moves, most of the centers just catch the ball and dunk or make a easy shot. Here the driving skill separates the two kinds.

Of course I was being serious. We were talking about driving, not handling, I agree that good centers have good handling. But Centers play closer to the basket than PFs. Barkley was a PF not a C. Like Amare Stoudamire, who is also good at 'driving' to the basket. Hakeem's moves and those of other centers were based on feints and other deceptive manuevers, very skilful no doubt, and mostly all back to the basket moves. But that's where the confusion is. If those moves are also taken to be part of 'driving' to the basket then there's no separation between the guard who drives to the hole by dribbling in from 25 feet out and a center who bullies or shimmies his way there from <10 feet out.

It would be best if driving exclusively meant 'dribbling' in this game and a separate skill was needed by the big men to execute moves close to the basket - which is why I thought inside scoring covered all such inside moves. If thats not how it is, then its a bit odd to think that a PG who has high 'driving' in this game will transform his guard skills into big man skills when playing as a center. But so be it.

Its doubtful we'll get any more than what's there in the manual, although I'm sure friends of the game developers will probably know exactly what's what. The manual says driving is used by players to create their own shot, without specifying anything about positional play. So it seems all players use it, and therefore a PG who plays at center automatically transforms into a low post craftsman.

I think driving would be needed for a big man because as the manual says,driving helps a player get his own show. I think driving is more important for big man then guards. Handeling would be more important for a guard becausr he could use dribble moves to get his own shot. Driving, as is for real basketball, is when your down low attaking the basket which is what big men would do in the post. Its not said but it would make more since if driving was more important for big men so they can dominate the low post and make their way to the basket.

There's a lot about the GE I don't even know, and that's by choice.

Well this isn't about the GE, is it? Its about the rules of the game, not how the game is played. How would it hurt, for example, to clarify what position uses the driving skill and how?

Charles Barkley and Hakeem Olajuwon for example were two of the greatest inside scorers ever but neither relied on backing a player down. .

Charles absolutely used the backdown as a consistent way to attack and score inside...so much so that the NBA came up with the "Charles Barkley Rule" limiting how long a player can have the ball in his hands without shooting or passing it. Hard to believe its already going on 20 years ago that Charles arrived here in Phoenix.
