As long as you learn from the experience and you don't lose your team, although it was a poor decision to have the guy in the first place, you'll be wiser now.
To be honest, in V, what you want to do is to start your training program, fill your other positions with nicely-balanced players at around 8-9k salaries, make sure to have a deep enough bench so that you're not playing your starters 80+ minutes, and then manage your enthusiasm and game shape. While doing that, keep your staff costs kind of low, spend a little on scouting and focus on upgrading your arena, and then just let your team grow with your trainees, replacing the other guys as you promote.
