I agree. If the teams are more or less balanced, I would bet on the away team in each situation. The home team woul dhave to be really much better to be sure of winning.

Well... I dont think there is some simple formula... Tactics is the key element in deciding should you CT or not in this 3 games series...
For example it is much easier to overcome someones home court advantage if you have balanced team on all players positions VS team that is focused only on tall players or only on outside players...
You have the advantage of choosing the appropriate tactical solutions in games with those teams (for example, I saw a lot of teams that play look inside or low post during the whole season)...

And just to add one of the solutions:
If you play your first game away I dont think it would be so foolish to play CT, and surprise the oponent if he is playing Normal, and then CT again with lower level of enthusiasm but with home court advantage...

Edit... To all... :)

the only right answer is: it depends on your opponent, and it might be partially gambling. Last year I gambled right.

the only obvious thing is: CT in the third game.

:)

I tried to figure out a system last year, and believe me it took me days. In the end I came up with the result that there is no 1 way. Depending on how your opponent chooses his CT and TIEs you will always have a chance of loosing the title... So gamble; stick to your plan, and hope your opponent plays it the way you gambled, if not... well bad luck. Rememeber either he, or you will have bad luck, but someone has got to have it. :)

I haven't been at BB long, but I would think of the Normal/TIE/CT puzzle as an intricate game of Rock-Paper-Scissors.

Obviously playing CT in the first game for either side is probably suicidal. Why? Enthusiasm wrecked for the remaining games meaning the only chance would be back to back CT...pretty obvious what is coming if the opponent is paying attention.

So Normal or TIE? I should mention that I am assuming equivalently talented teams. Being far superior means that you could probably do whatever you liked to win. Normal has the benefits of giving a superior chance to win the first game. Your opponent knowing this may allow the first game to fall by playing TIE(knowing that if he wins he probably has it in the bag). Double TIE and its again...anyone's ball game with the advantage in the 2nd game to the Home team there.

The second game is dictated by the results of the first. TIE and win and you get your choice on how to finish off the opponent. He almost certainly can't afford to build enthusiasm...he is facing elimination here.

Normal vs. TIE and win and likely you should be playing tie...the opponent knows this and may risk a tie to steal game 2 and setup for best case in game 3.

Like I said...many permutations, but the biggest part is guesswork on your opponent and trying to dictate the games to your advantage.

See the more I think about it though, the more the whole TIE/CT concept is just silly and not at all realistic. In the playoffs you play your hardest every second of every game. Can you imagine a scenerio where a coach would say. Hey guys don't worry about this game, all we need to do is win one of the next 2. Why don't we take this one easy and then really go after them in the 2nd game. I mean seriously... It's rare to take any game off in any game of any season unless they have clinched the playoffs and by TIE they play more reserves to rest starters no play same people and just tell them to be safe. But I'm just rambling now.

I agree. I'd love it if they got rid of TIE/CT altogether.

instead of that, teams can be able to change their enthusiasm ingame..
for example, second game of the finals, you lost the first one and play CT, your opponent plays TIE..
your team leads by 20 in the half and your coach says "ok guys, they play like sissies, you don't have to try too hard, we've already won this one"..

You simply will not see anything that allows anything to be changed after the game starts.

NO ONE at this table ordered a rum & Coke
Charles: Penn has some good people
A CT? Really?
Any two will do
Any three for me
Any four will score
Any five are live

Kind of.

It would be impossible for you to change something during game such as described, however you could set changes for possible scenarios before the match. For example, another field at the end of the set orders page "take it easy if winning by 20 at half time".

It would be impossible to change orders during game because the games are calculated very fast, less than seconds probably, but if we could set hypothetical situations in which our team could have different behaviors, then that too would be calculated. From what I heard, BB calculates the game play-by-play, so that shouldn't be and issue.

Obviously the "take it easy if winning by 20 at half time" is hypothetical. You should have to choose between "TiE, Normal or CT" and then "Winning or Losing" and then "By 10, 20, 30, 40, 50" or so on, and then "after 1st quarter, 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter", and it would also be nice if there were the possibility of making more than one order such as that, because you never know if you will be winning or losing.

It would sure make enthusiasm calculations waaaay more complicated, but surely more realistic.

edit: Oh, and it would be a major strategy tool for the game!

Or maybe get rid of enthusiasm for the playoffs? Doesn't really make sense (from a realistic point of view) to have it in there when everybody tries to win each game.
