Your statement is that this is a LOTTERY.

Question: why there is a lottery inside a game that would be "realistic"?

It's clearly unfair and you'll see it when one team in your division in 2050 will earn 3 m doing nothing and you'll miss the promotion due to him

If you look at my transfer history you'll see that I bought a pot11-rookie for 2,75 million $ ;)

Just check out the NBA draft history and look at guys like Greg Oden - 1st pick. Got fired after some years of injury. Even Blake Griffin was a bad pick in his first year because he missed it.

So: in reality it's a lottery. Isn't it realistic then, if it's a lottery in BB?

For my 2c worth.

The draft is not something I have had success with myself since starting the game and I have been pretty down on ones chances of getting quality in it, however, looking at some of these posts about it got me thinking about my own perception of the Draft.

It has been mentioned that the Draft comes down to pure luck, and that this has no place in a Management Game. Is it luck to spend thousands on a Draft and strategically position your team to take advantage of quality players in it, or is it risk Management? I think it is perfect for a Management Game. Risk management is a very real quality to true management in the real world.

There are a lot of segments of this game that may be considered good or bad, but I guess the good part is that they are not hidden, and sometimes if not always we are forced into risk management on a number of levels, sometimes those calculated risks pay off and sometimes they don't, this is a lot like real life.

Look at how many teams are tanking in the NBA this season in the race to get Wiggins, they will loose millions, breed discontent with their fans, ruin their coaches career records, and for what, a chance to get in a lottery to pick up a guy who just might be worth the pay day. What happens if he doesn't come out of school next year? what happens if he sufferers a career ending injury during March Madness?

Then there is a team like Miami. No draft investment, just wait and buy championships with players everyone else invested in and trained, they have never grown a title team, they just buy one. Very few teams are going to do as San Antonio and Oklahoma do and build over time with quality and investment in youth. Just like in BB, there are so many options, and our choices take time and risk.

I like how the game plays, and would be very open to advances in the game as time goes on, and enjoy reading suggestions from the thousands of users.

I spent a lot on my draft in the Naismith last year but I got nothing there was not even a 5,4 or a 4,5 or even a 4,4 the best was a 5,3 in the entire draft this was my first round pick (30718756)

I think the actual draft system was made according to an old reality. For that reality was excelent. I'm talking of a reality before the first salary change, when the actual 130-140k salary players charged 300k instead.
The Draft system itself is not the problem, neither the potential distribution. What I think BB must change are the avarage skillset of the players adjusting them to the actual reality. Raise the actual maximum Respectable(7) to Proficient(9)-Prominent(10) could be an excelent solution.
Besides, in reality (NBA) a drafted player could be a starter in his first year. In the actual system players like LeBron James, Blake Griffin or Chris Paul did not, do not and will not ever exist in BB.

So in a managerial game you don't see how bad is to have luck > skill?

We all like to compare BB to real world (NBA). At least that's what BB is trying to emulate, right? So let's see...

In NBA, not every 1st pick pans out. Sometimes people draft Kwambe Browns and sometimes Lebron James'.

Sometimes 1st pick doesn't work out (Greg Oden). Ironically, 2nd pick after Greg Oden was Kevin Durant. Did luck have something to do with it? Of course it did.

Sometimes drafts are bad overall like this year's draft (1st pick Anthony Bennet).

So all said and done, I don't see how BB draft is that much different from real life. Luck is always present in real life and we accept it. But how can't we accept luck in managerial game? BB is supposed to mimic RL whenever possible, so I really don't see why some are complaining.

This makes no sense at all.

"Tanking for Wiggins" means you get a star player that will contribute immediately on the highest level of competition - tanking for a draft pick in the BB world will give you (in the ABSOLUTE BEST CASE!) a 15yo LeBron James - that will hold your team back for multiple seasons if you want to train him properly. You might end up with Dajuan Wagner, Eddie Griffin or other types of bust players.

BB is not the NBA! If you want to draw real life comparisons considering league structure and youth development you should take a look at european pro sports with multiple levels of competition and vertical movement between those levels (Football/Soccer whatever suits you best).

and it LOSE not loose! ;)

Isn't the flaw really that someone wants to pay 2,6 million for a rookie?

What success is there in training a nice draftee? The point of the game is to win games right?
Buying a top prospect for loads of cash and spending one of your two training spots on that player for multiple seasons... The alternative cost for that investment is huge, don't you think?
