My training plan is nearly identical to your guy. No shooting capability but high defense and PA. I have two guys currently in the training plan.

So here's the one question I have with this type of player - did you use him in zones?

This thread isn’t about how many skills you can pack into an efficient beast. It’s about a defensive monster. Less blocked shots doesn’t mean he was useless. His high ID meant less opponents attacking him, but in those fewer instances the SB was handy.

I used him almost only in 3-2 zones. There were some PL games with boxes (worked great) and m2m as a shutdown player (if you know exactly, which to defend).

Yes and No.
SB ans JR were huge impacts, which were communicated before. But there was also a big topic and discussion with Marin, about small adjustments which are taken on a regular base without communicating it. I think this topic was around the same time with the SB/JR change.

No, 4 are enough. You need one scorer and than run patient.
After my last two seasons (both times an injury destroyed my promotion to div. 1) I have no real motivation left... I sold my players and run a patient after another. My 30k SF is an old trainee and has some really nice offense skills (JS, JR, DR and IS all at least 16). Such a Player with four defenders would be hard to stop.

Patient is easy to stop if you can't mix it up reliably. I don't think having several players who shoot in the low 30s or even less in D2 and D3 like Haek or the finnish guy is a recipe for success.

it leaves you room for 2 backups if you push ST high enough.

89k+78k+678k = 845k is quite high so you might have to trim somewhere to drop to a more reasonable 750k-800k.

Pipe dream anyway.

It's unfortunate that ID cannot be punted enough in a build pushing IS/RB/SB, that would be interesting. Maybe they should change secondary training for inside skills. My next project in a few seasons will be to build elite players with as little HA/DR as possible and see what happens (I already know what happens with big men, Guards would be interesting too, but harder to achieve)

I've actually had the same thought about building guards without DR and Handling training. I picture them essentially being spot open shooters and defenders. I'll try that next probably after the defensive builds.
