That is my understanding. There are a couple of options about how we advance, Talk about that will be kept offsite forum.

Next up is two groups of six. The groups (I think) are 1st and 4th from groups A and C and 2nd and 3rd from group B in one group, with the remaining top four teams in the other group.

Each team plays the others teams in their group once. Top 2 go through to the semis. Winners of the semis obviously play off in the final, and also are through to the world cup.losing semi finalists and the 3rd placed teams from the groups go to the repacharge.

Think that's all right.

Plus 1 and thankyou

I hope that I am not betraying any national secrets here, but one option on how to advance, might be to win all of the remaining games

I was worried at 1/4 time but felt better at the half. Was a solid win. With Hong Kong going the forfeit the make up of the final groups are up in the air. I wonder how many more will throw games to get into a certain group.

Match Report Australia V Iran 29/7/13 (5th game of U21 Asian Championship)

Controversy surrounded tonights game vs Iran.

At stake for Australia was the opportunity to guarantee a worse case scenario of finishing 2nd in Pool A and given the players brilliant game shape they were firm favourites to win.

With this tournament supposedly being hosted in Australia, the Wombat King was seething that they had to fly to Tepapa which is near Wellington in NewZealand.

One assumes that the Manager of the Porirua team, Maanonu, is a Kiwi sheep shearer living in Australia, but whom whilst having his team registered in Australia, some how found a loop hole to enable his team to play their home games in New Zealand.

Tic Tac who had worked hard to redeem himself after being stood down for disciplinary reasons a few weeks ago, might again be in trouble this time for trying to break David Boons record for drinking beers whilst on a plane trip.

Whilst Tic Tac didn’t quite set the record, in his defence the flight to NZ was a bit shorter than the flight Boony took to the UK.

Tip off as had been the custom, went to the Duke and like clockwork Bath Water threaded a pass to Tic Tac, only for him to miss his first shot 18 seconds into the game.

2 and a half minutes into the game and Tic Tac was 0 from 4 with the one turn over, and Australia was 6 nil down.

After vomiting during a time out, Tic Tac remained on court and whilst he was getting scored against, the rest of the Australian team did settle a little bit with the Duke sinking a free throw and the Combover hitting a 2.

It was about this time that an international incident transpired that nearly brought the 2 countrys to the brink of war.

After innocently asking the Iranian Scout Mr Alireza7, who was on game chat, how they were managing to restrict Tic Tacs shooting (which was 0 from 6), a communication mix up took place where I took offence to Mickyster interjection that he should have started Sacks at SF and in the seconds I took to reply with “at least it wasn’t the “Truth” “, our Iranian friend had commented that he couldn’t say anything (about game tactics).

It took several minutes to explain to our Iranian official that the “Truth” was a nickname of a SF in the Australian Under 21squad, and was not a jibe about his honesty.
With tensions between the 2 countrys eased, attention turned back to the basketball game where Iran had gone to quarter time with an 18 point to 11 lead.

Continued from previous post

The second quarter started with Ted dunking off a Combover pass and the Duke starting to assert some dominance on the boards.

5 minutes into the second and after the Bath Water drained a couple of free throws, Australia hit the lead for the first time in the game, only for the Iranians to regain it shortly after.

At half time and despite a buzzerbeater from Goodsy off a pass from Evonnes Son, Australia again trailed 40 to 37, possibly in part due to Tic Tac missing 9 of 10 shots and having 2 turnovers during the half.

Bath Water started the 3rd quarter giving off his 6th assist which resulted in Ted knocking down his 14th point, however the game was continuing to be tightly fought with the Iranians defending hard.

Part way through the 3rd and Nima Izadi, Irans starting SF was hurting the Australians with his 5 from 5 shooting and 2 from 2 free throws that he'd had up to this stage of the game, but courtesy of Ted and the Duke, dominating the boards, Australia gained the lead again and extended it to 6 points at 3 quarter time, 64 to 58.

The 4th started with The Duke knocking down a 2 and then the Iranian sharp shooter Nima Izadi missing his first shot for the game and it wasn’t until almost 5 minutes into the quarter and many attempts that the Iranians hit their first points for the quarter.

6 minutes into the last and Ted knocked down his 29th point to extend the Aussies lead to 14 points and allow the Wombat King to be comfortable enough to give the bench a run.

Wang Chung, Evonnes Son, Bald Guy, Goodsy and the Hessian Bag played out most of the remaining minutes and guided Australia home to a 84 to 69 win.

Ted and the Duke combined for 29 rebounds and 44 points between them which was significantly better than Irans starting PF and Centre who combined for only 15 rebounds and 25 points.

Bath Water finished with 10 assists and the Bald Guy surprisingly topped the ratings with a 17.

The Wombat King wasn’t impressed that Tic Tac jokingly tried to claim a double double (10 rebounds and 11 missed shots) and ordered him to attend extra training sessions of lay up practice and also to refrain from drinking.
