I fully agree with you, but it isn't what X-steppers was talking about. He wanted thresholds to make the team, which in my view is counterproductive
That wasn't the entirety of my discussion but it was the part you disagreed with most vehemently.
In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with setting a sort of minimum standards for starting position at skills but we've been over that 100 times both publically and privately so I don't wish to rehash it again.
Where I think this dovetails into the current discussion is that I think you guys are right in that there are going to be various types of managers playing this game.
a) those who log in and never come back
b) those who log in and don't want to be bothered to learn the game or be told what to do
c) those who log in, love the game, do a great job of improving their team and couldn't careless about the nt/u20
d) those who love the NT scene but aren't into the rest of the game (farms, if you will)
e) those who love the NT scene and their teams and want to do everything to balance both
f) Those who log in, are just starting to figure out the the game but need guidance on where to go
For the purposes of the NT/u20 you never have to do any reaching out to the managers in D and E because they will reach out to you. Once you identify the folks in C & B, you can pretty much leave them alone. There's always going to be category A but you'll never know which of the new teams are A's or A's waiting to become E's.
It is category F that holds the most potential for the NT/u20 team. The more of those managers you can identify and assist the stronger your depth will be. Personal contact is 1 great tool to help these people. The offsite forum is another good tool. Another tool that can and should be used is the public forum. As an example the NT discussion thread after we failed to advance was a beautiful read for anyone who cared to learn about the NT team and the strategy used. Sure it had the advantage of monday morning Quarterbacking but it still had a lot of very good information in it. In my opinion, that kind of public discussion will only spur interest amongst those in category F who find the threads. What better way to help them find that information than to put it out here in the form of a sticky? Or as a suggestion from some of the personal contact "scouts?"
EDIT: left out a word, if you can believe it. ;-)
