This is correct: PP100 are calculated ex-post based on the shots that are actually taken at this position. You assumption was correct, at least as far as I understand the situation.

Indeed, it will be more precise to say that of everything you can find in the box score, they are the best explanatory factor of the final score.

I mean, obviously the actual determinant of the score is chance, since no matter what the probability of scoring is, whether the shot is actually scored or not depends on how the die rolls. Of course, since we have a sufficient number of repetitions in BB (60-100 shots a game), the final result tends to be much more logical than in HT, for example, where you have 10 or 15 repetitions per match.
