Having two abilities which overlap (in intuition and concept) as jump shot and inside shot makes no good at all and should be clarified.

Inside Shot and Jump Shot aren't the same, other than they are attempts to score. Inside shot is 'post moves' and all layups. 'Jump shot' is attempts at distance. Watch your games and you'll get a better idea of where these shots come from in a BB context.

Taking a different approach to explain this, if you have ever played a computer basketball sim, the players are often rated for inside and outside shooting. This is what BB is getting at. Its a way of modeling different kinds of players.

You are right, however, that the difference should be clarified. The Rules right now don't make what I've said clear. They assume a familiarity with basketball sims that isn't there for the entire BB community.

Let's not exaggerate :)
The rules are not the dictionary... if you need to know what an jump shot or a layup is you can always check wikipedia :)

Hmm. I did check and Wikipedia makes no mention of how Wikipedia terms are used by those who wrote the BuzzerBeater rules. :) :)

I suggest a GM starts a 'sticky' topic in the suggestions forum for suggestions about the rulespages, what should be added, what should be clearified, what should be corrected,...

This way it would be easy for our BBs to read over the posts and see what they can do for the rules.

They are not your friends; they dispise you. I am the only one you can count on. Trust me.

lol! you've got a backstreet's or NSYNC guy playing for your team!!!

thanks, but again, I can make a lot of research, but the whole topic (I haveto say that many hints in here are going to be useful for me) is that it is really hard to understand enough of what's happening to be able to change your tactics consistently

P.D. having to search on the wikipedia is not what I expect from a complete game... I know the terms but there are several interpretations. For ex., shooting is defined in the rules as the quality of shots in general, so my first guess if I read that it is that it is also needed for inside shots, which seems to be completely false. When is a shoot considered as jump shot? 3 meters from the hook, 4? depends on the kind of shot? when a point guard dives, is he using the inside shooting skill (I guess so, but I'm not sure)?, etc...

even if you clarify all this stuff in here, all the newies need that clarifications as well, and starting a threat is not an option. Rules need a better and deeper explanation (imho)

Completely agree.
But not now... If I have to translate rules again, it will kill me:D
