In Europe (I know about euroleague and Greece for sure) The system is very simple:
If 2 or 3 teams have the same record we look at the games they played between them (and don;t take into account the results they had with other teams).

If they still are tied (ex: in a 3 teams comparison if they all won by 10 points between each other) then and only then do we look at the total point difference...

But BB is not reality, whatever system is fine by me as long as we know it from the begining of the season...

What about the final ? If both teams have the same Win-loss record, I don't think it should be taken the result of the only game between them because one played at home and the other away. So it would not be fair.

thats a good point. however at the moment it is not fairer.

first this is only the case if both teams have the same record. if so, point differential doesnt really make it fairer. usually one conference is better then the other. Why punish the team who managed to have the same record playing more often against better teams, but only wining with an average of 10 points instead of 20 points.

btw. if we use point differential, blow out rule should have never been applied.

it ain't just the final, the season standing is used for the draft where probadly must head to head decisions are included - and around 50% of them betwenn conferences.

I think the point different ain't so bad, as long we just 1 play one match betwenn the conference or we play then at neutral ground.(but this would make ticketing problems)

There was an explanation given quite awhile ago by the BBs about why it's PD and not head-to-head.

If I come across it I'll post it.

Probably one reason is that it is complicated. You can't use a conventional sorting algorithm, since ranking that includes head-to-head is not transitive. a > b and b > c, does not necessarily mean that a > c.

It would also either require scanning results to determine head-to-head results, or keeping track of all 28 intra-conferences pairs. In the early part of the season, there are lots of ties based on record, but few head-to-head matchups to resolve the ties, so after trying to resolve ties on head-to-head you have to go back to using point differential anyhow.

I would like them to use conference record before points though. I started my first season with 3 games left, and won all 3 but finished in a 4-way tie for 3rd through 6th. It seems that if you are going to classify teams as to which are in the conference playoffs, which are on the sideline, and which conference teams are possibly relegated, that conference record should be taken into account before resorting to point differentials.
