Yep. This is how i understand it. IS is how you finish near to basket, JS is exactly that, even with 1 JR, still you are expanding your scoring area. See for example David Lee this season that he got JS, and how much better looks than last year.

hmm....So 13 IS and 1 JS is pretty similar to 10 IS with 5 JS?

And 10 JS and 1 JR is similar to 8 JS and 3 JR?

Is that what you mean?

No. 13 IS is 13 IS. Whats the deference here is that you make your big man more versatile. Therefore the defender needs more than just ID to stop him. He needs OD too. If he doesnt have it at all then most probably will be on a foul trouble.

JR is good to have but not essential if we are talking about big men. Thats my experience after 526 days on the game.

Sorry but I'm still a bit confused. Consider half a basketball court. Which part does the IS affect shots from? Which part does the JS affect shots from? If a player has a JR of 1, and a player is shooting from outside this "range", then does it matter what his JS is? Does the section where JS occurs overlap with the section where IS occurs?

Lets say that IS is everything 3-4 feet and in. JS lets say that are the shots from 4 feet and out. I can tell you exactly the numbers what i have in my mind is something like that. (20100511). Thats my last PO game. My PG/SG have 10/12 JR. My SF/PF have 8/4 on JR. As you can see those 2 made the only 3pt shots of my team.

According some very experienced managers after a certain level JR is waste of salary. (i tend to agree of course).

An interesting read about JS/JR even if they dont talk about big men JR. (133577.24)

ah okay. So if you had to guess, what range would JR 1 be? You said IS is 3-4 feet and in. So would the Atrocious JR be closer to the basket? If so, doesn't that mean that 13 IS and 1 JS is essentially the same as 10 IS and 4 JR (when considering shots made in the 3-4 feet distance). What I'm trying to say is that if I have 6 IS, and trained JS up to 8, would that increase my IS percentage even though it doesn't increase the actual skill value that much?

I agree that JS is somewhat important for a big man, and JR is not. The plan is for him to take all of his shots from within 10 feet of the basket, for that no JR is needed.

OK, here's an update on my rookie from earlier in the thread:

Jump Shot: average Jump Range: mediocre
Outside Def.: mediocre Handling: respectable
Driving: mediocre Passing: pitiful
Inside Shot: average Inside Def.: mediocre
Rebounding: awful Shot Blocking: respectable
Stamina: inept Free Throw: mediocre

Yes, I know that's only like five bumps in 10 weeks. I only recently figured out this whole training thing.

I can't decide which way to leap with this guy. I don't like him at SG due to pitiful passing, and I really don't like him at PF because of the awful rebounding. I'm leaning towards keeping him at SF despite his flaws; his profile is very similar to my 35 year old starting SF, who's been adequate. I'm hoping to get a SG in the draft, and train them in tandem.
