Well, the simple answer is that I don't believe the theory is right.


In that case, the majority of the user base, including the current world champion, are assembling their teams based on a flawed theory (yes, I did a little non-randomized poll - perhaps it wasn't representative of the BB population and wouldn't be publishable in a peer reviewed journal but I'm going with it).

I don't know what their evidence is and frankly I didn't even know this theory was out there until my country's NT manager told me about it. But these are managers with lots of wins under their belts. I can't believe that they would all be wrong.

you should account in this theory the fact that, while for sure a JR greater that 10 has to have some impact on the game, it is so expensive on salary that atleast till now it was better to leave it around 10.

If you are in a league without good perimeter defenders, then after a certain point training outside shooting will have diminishing returns. But then, this is true for every type of skill at some point, right?


I get this point but why would JR have diminishing returns for a SG faster than JS? It just doesn't make sense. If you go by the salary formula, the most important offensive skill for a SG should be JR.

To me, that always indicated that a great SG in BB, against a great perimeter d, should have JR in the 14/15 range to make a good portion of his 3s. However, what I am essentially being told is that average JR is what you should strive for.

If you go by the salary formula, the most important offensive skill for a SG should be JR.

and if you go by the salary formula, IS has no impact at all for a SF... and SB is almost as important as IS, ID and Reb for a C.

But my impression is that players with huge driving and jumpshot tend to take more shots, players with huge jump range will hit more :P.


I'm sure about that,

And I think it partly works this way:
When a PF (for instance) chooses to take a jumpshot in stead of a inside shot his opponent might have to use more than his inside defence, namely his outside defense. When the particular opponent is bad at OD his attacker might learn that it might be better to take a jumpshot, instead of a inside shot.

My experiences say that JR is very very usefull skill (and for PG even more according to my NT games). At this point of game, when OD is at level 13-14 for like 90% of NT players, you should have 12-13 JR for a good scorer, to be recognized. My players made like 9/10, 10/10 etc. in NT games with similar opponent last season! It was becose of high JR i think..

1 BBB, 20 Leagues, 10 Tournaments, 3 Europe Titles (SVK), 2 World Bronzes (SVK), 2 Europe Bronzes (SVK,FRA), 42 Seasons NT coaching

I actually do not have a big issue for the IS salary impact on a SF. IS on a SF in BB is a secondary skill at best, maybe even a third skill. For sure I would want OD, ID, JS on a SF first. After that, passing, handling, driving and rebounding would be next on my list. Not to say that IS is not useful for a SF, it is just not one of the most important skills.

SB - I don't fully understand the impact of the GE changes yet so I can't comment on it.

yeah...that's why often the coach of teams like Toroo used big mans as SF playing look inside....for their handling and driving skills ;P
In some points,the salary formula doesn't reflect the impact of a skill for certain roles...

I can't quote all of his games, but it looks like he played look inside today during his B3 match and used a SG and SF at the SF position (and I know his SF's best skill is not inside shot). I would actually be surprised if Torooo ever used a C at SF but please prove me wrong.

On the other hand, inside shot can be useful on a SF in a look inside offense, but I would not put its importance over inside/outside d, jump shot, passing and handling or even a decent amount of driving.

Actually, I couldn't see significant difference between a SF with tremendous JS and respectable JS, but the sample size is still quite small.
